The new Donkey Kong-themed area will feature a roller coaster, interactive experiences, themed merchandise and food, and much more. According to the announcement, the new area is set to open in 2024, so fans will have to be a bit patient before they can step foot inside the lush jungle landscape of Donkey Kong’s world.
The Universal creative team will be joined by the Nintendo creative team, including Shigeru Miyamoto, in bringing the Donkey Kong-themed area into existence. The inclusion of the Donkey Kong area will see Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan increase its size by approximately 70%, a huge mark that will only make the theme park that much more of a tourist destination.

“I am very happy to be able to make the world of Donkey Kong a reality following the world of Mario,” said Miyamoto, one of Nintendo’s Representative Directors and the creator of Donkey Kong. “I am looking forward to creating a thrilling Donkey Kong experience with the amazing team at Universal. It will take some time until it is completed, but it will be a unique area for not only people who are familiar with Donkey Kong games, but for all guests.”
