Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has revealed that the next trailer for the eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy XVI is ready to go and will become publicly available very soon. He was chatting about the game with NieR series producer Yosuke Saito during a collaboration stream in Japan, and the fine folks at Gematsu translated their exchange.

While the trailer was originally scheduled to hit in spring, Yoshida confirmed that it had been delayed, but not for too long. He also commented on how the game was coming along in general:
“The development team has put in tremendous effort. From this point, we’re fervently playing it through, polishing, debugging, and thoroughly optimizing, so I think we’re going to take a little longer there. It’s already come together considerably.”
Final Fantasy XVI first premiered during a PlayStation 5 event in September 2020. The game will be a Sony console exclusive for some length of time, and it’s currently not scheduled for a PC release either despite some wording to that effect on the original reveal trailer’s fine print. Because of this exclusivity, any new trailer for the game would likely be tied to a Sony presentation unless Square Enix wants to have their own event this summer.

Fans will have to wait for further news, but they’ll be happy to know that the game will likely release sooner rather than later. It’s been described by developers and producers within Square Enix as close to completion and has already seen significant delays due to the global pandemic. While not confirmed, it’s likely that the next glimpse at the game will reveal exactly when the next Final Fantasy will be in the player’s hands.
