“We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen,” Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, said in a statement. “We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.”
The film is set to be produced by Stahelski alongside 87 Eleven Entertainment partners Alex Young and Jason Spitz, while Qizilbash and Center Swan will produce on behalf of PlayStation Productions and Sucker Punch Productions, the developer behind the hit title, will serve as executive producers on the project and Peter Kang will oversee it for the studio.
Tsushima will mark the latest PlayStation title to receive a screen adaptation treatment under the new Sony Pictures/PS Production partnership, the first big-screen project being the Tom Holland-fronted Uncharted, currently in production and targeting a February 2022 release, and HBO’s The Last of Us series from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) in the central roles.

The action-adventure title takes place in 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan, until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.
With Tsushima on the brink of destruction, Jin Sakai must sacrifice everything to defeat the ruthless Mongol invaders and protect what’s left of his home and people. As he embarks on an epic adventure for the freedom of Tsushima, he is forced to set aside samurai traditions and become a new kind of warrior.
