Supergirl final season trailer: Lex takes over the fortress of solitude

The CW has finally released the official trailer for the upcoming sixth and final season of their hit superhero series Supergirl, which is set to make its return next week on March 30. The video features Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor as he gains superpowers while also managing to take charge of the Fortress of Solitude. Now, the Girl of Steel along with the super friends must find a way to turn him into human again before he can enact his lifelong plans of eliminating aliens from Earth. Check out the video in the player below!

Directed by Jesse Warn from a script written by Jay Faerber and Jess Kardos, the official synopsis for Episode 6.01 titled “Rebirth,” reads: As Brainiac (Jesse Rath) lays close to death after trying to stop Lex (Jon Cryer), Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and team soar in to save him, engaging in an epic battle with Gamenmae (guest star Cara Buono). After beating Leviathan, Supergirl turns her attention to Lex (Jon Cryer) who has used the Obsidian platform to brainwash half the world to love him and follow him at all costs, no matter what horrible things he does. Knowing how dangerous this makes her brother, Lena (Katie McGrath) enlists the entire team – Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood), Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Kelly (Azie Tesfai) and Brainiac – to help, but Supergirl realizes that the only way to truly stop Lex is to sacrifice herself.

The series stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow ‘Winn’ Schott, Katie McGrath (Merlin) as Lena Luthor, Jess Rath as Brainiac 5, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onnz. Season 5 also starred Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair, and special guest star Jon Cryer.

The final season of Supergirl is expected to run for 20 episodes. It was originally scheduled to return in mid-2021 but due to Superman & Lois going into a hiatus, the network decided to debut the sixth season early in order to fill the vacant timeslot.

Season 6 is also set to feature David Ramsey, who is returning to reprise his Arrow role as John Diggle. He is also set to direct the twelfth episode with series regulars Chyler Leigh and David Harewood also directing the sixth and seventh episodes, respectively. The upcoming season will also feature Eliza Helm as young Cat Grant and Jason Behr as a Kryptonian.
