Warner Bros. Pictures has officially changed the release date again for Westworld creator Lisa Joy’s upcoming sci-fi thriller film Reminiscence, starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson. Originally scheduled to debut on August 27, the film will now arrive in theaters and on HBO Max, a week earlier on Friday, August 20, which puts the film against Lionsgate’s action pic The Protégé starring Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, and Maggie Q.
This marks the fourth time that Reminiscence‘s release date has been moved. It was first set for an April 2021 release last year but was later pushed back to September 3, 2021, for a Labor Day weekend debut. However, to avoid competition with Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings, the Hugh Jackman-led film had to be moved a week earlier to August 27.

Set in the near future, where Miami has been changed by global warming, Reminiscence centers around Nick Bannister, a private investigator who deals in recapturing vivid cherished memories for clients. His life will completely change when he meets a mysterious client, who he madly falls in love with. But one day, the woman suddenly disappears, leaving Nick completely lost. When he decides to search for her, he discovers different aspects of her personality that he didn’t know before.
The film will reunite Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman and Golden Globe nominee Rebecca Ferguson, who have previously worked together in 2017’s The Greatest Showman. Joining them are Westworld star Thandiwe Newton, Cliff Curtis, Marina de Tavira, Daniel Wu, Mojean Aria, Brett Cullen, Natalie Martinez, Angela Sarafyan, and Nico Parker.
