David S. Goyer is in talks to direct Masters of the Universe

David S. Goyer is in talks to direct the He-Man film Masters of the Universe for Sony Pictures, according to The Wrap. Goyer wrote the most recent draft of the script for the film, which is set for release by Sony Pictures on December 18, 2019. Masters of the Universe is based on the Mattel toy line character He-Man, which led to an animated series that ran from 1983-1985.

Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam, who has the ability to transform into a warrior called He-Man. As He-Man, Adam becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.

Originally launched as a popular Mattel toy line in 1982, Masters of the Universe spawned several animated series (including the female-driven spinoff cartoon series, She-Ra: Princess of Power) along with a 1987 live-action film. Directed by Gary Goddard, the first Masters of the Universe movie stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor and, in one of her very first big screen roles, a young Courteney Cox as Julie Winston, a teenage character created specifically for the film.

Masters of the Universe will be produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch from Escape Artists. Mattel executives Julia Pistor and David Voss will executive produce for the company. Sony’s Matthew Milam will oversee.

David S. Goyer is known for writing The Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel. He’s directed Blade: TrinityThe Unborn and a number of episodes of the Starz series Da Vinci’s Demons. Other directors including Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and McG (Terminator Salvation) have been attached to the film.

Michael B. Jordan (CreedFruitvale Station) is set to star in the upcoming legal drama Just Mercy, according to Variety. The film will reportedly be the next one he shoots. Just Mercy was set up at Broad Green Pictures, but they closed earlier this year. The film is now with Warner Bros. Pictures. Just Mercy will likely shoot at the beginning of 2018, with Jordan shooting Creed 2 after that. Creed 2 is set for November 21, 2018, though there is no info about changing that date, according to the site.

Here is the Amazon description of the book: “Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.”

Here's some new info on Benicio Del Toro's character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Here’s some new info on Benicio Del Toro’s character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Empire has a new pic of Benicio Del Toro’s character DJ from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, as well as some new information about him in anticipation of the January issue of their magazine. DJ is reportedly an “underworld slicer,” which, in the world of Star Wars legends (formerly called the Expanded Universe or EW), is something like a hacker.

Benicio Del Toro spoke about DJ, “This character could come straight out of a Bob Dylan or Tom Waites song, or even a Dostoyevsky novel. He’s like something out of Dickens; there have been characters like him in all kinds of literature.” He continued, “He’s like a knife: if you grab him by the blade, he’ll cut you. If you grab him by the handle, he can be very, very useful.”

Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga. “The Last Jedi” is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

What do you think of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi info? Are you excited to meet Benicio Del Toro’s character DJ when the film hits theaters on December 15? Let us know in the comments. The January issue of Empire magazine is on newsstands now.

Linda Cardellini Joins Mortensen and Ali in Green Book

Green Book casts Linda Cardellini opposite Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali

Green Book casts Linda Cardellini opposite Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali

Emmy-nominated Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of UltronER) has joined the cast of the upcoming film Green Book. She’ll appear with Academy Award nominee Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, A History of Violence) and Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Luke CageMoonlight). Green Book will be directed by Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About MaryDumb and Dumber) from a script he wrote with Nick Vallelonga and Brian Currie.

Participant Media announced today that the company will produce and finance Green Book through Amblin Partners. The project is produced by Jim Burke, Charles Wessler and Farrelly along with Vallelonga and Currie. Executive producers are Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, along with Cinetic Media’s John Sloss and Steve Farneth as well as Kwame Parker. The film is slated to commence principal photography this week.

Green Book tells the true story of Tony Lip, an Italian-American bouncer with a seventh-grade education, who in 1962 was hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, one of the world’s finest jazz pianists, on a concert tour from New York City through the pre-Civil Rights era Deep South. Since Dr. Shirley was African-American, the men relied on the Negro Motorist Green Book to guide them to the few motels, restaurants and gas stations that they were welcomed in below the Mason-Dixon Line. Confronted with racism, danger, and, sometimes unexpected humanity, the journey opened both men’s eyes to each other, and to the world they lived in.

Farrelly stated, “To have Viggo, Mahershala and Linda in my movie is a blessing and an embarrassment of riches. I am looking forward to working with all of them and sharing Nick’s testament to his father with the world.”

“We are proud to support the whole creative team on this film that beautifully highlights the enduring importance of friendship, family and the freedom to express yourself,” said Jonathan King, Participant’s President of Narrative Film & Television.

Green Book is planned for release through Participant’s output arrangements via Amblin Partners. Are you guys interested in the film? Let us know in the comments.

I, Tonya clip: Margot Robbie faces her toughest critic

Neon has released a new clip for I, Tonya, the biopic of infamous figure skater Tonya Harding starring Margot Robbie. Watch the I, Tonya clip in the player below!

RELATED: I, Tonya Red Band Trailer: Margot Robbie Becomes the Controversial Skater

Based on unbelievable but true events, I, Tonya is the darkly comedic tale of American figure skater Tonya Harding and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy has forever been defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived and worse-executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan in 1994.

Featuring an iconic turn by Margot Robbie as the fiery Harding, a mustachioed Sebastian Stan as her impetuous ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, and a tour-de-force performance from Allison Janney as her acid-tongued mother LaVona Golden, I, Tonya is an absurd, irreverent and piercing portrayal of Harding’s life and career in all of its unchecked––and checkered––glory. Paul Walter Hauser, Julianne Nicholson, Bobby Cannavale and Mckenna Grace also star.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (The Finest Hours, Million Dollar Arm) from a screenplay by Steven Rogers (P.S. I Love You), I, Tonya opens in NY and LA on December 8, 2017.
