Lucasfilm Announces New Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Tie-In Novels

This fall, California’s Disneyland Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida will launch Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. These parks invite Star Wars fans to visit Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet of Batuu. Ahead of the attractions’ respective openings, Disney and Lucasfilm are fleshing out the lore of this cosmic region. According to StarWars.com, Del Rey and Disney Lucasfilm Press are releasing three new novels that expand on Batuu’s history. Check out images from these books in our Galaxy’s Edge gallery below!

We already knew that Marvel was preparing for Galaxy’s Edge by releasing an eponymous comic book miniseries of the same name. That series will introduce readers to an Ithorian named Dok-Ondar, a morally ambiguous antiquities dealer. Following this, Disney Lucasfilm Press will publish two young adult novels, A Crash of Fate and Star Wars: Myths & Fables, on August 6.

A Crash of Fate is written by Zoraida Córdova and tells the story of best friends Izzy and Jules, who lived together on Batuu as children. After spending several years away, Izzy returns to Batuu and draws Jules into a plot involving smugglers and pirates. George Mann is writing Myths & Fables, which also features artwork by Grant Griffin. As its title implies, the book includes a number of folktales set in the Outer Rim. To tease the collection, StarWars.com posted an excerpt from a story titled “The Knight & the Dragon.” You can read the excerpt at the link above.

On September 3, Del Rey will release Delilah S. Dawson’s Black Spire, a prequel to the upcoming Galaxy’s Edge attractions. The novel depicts General Leia Organa sending her most trusted spy to enlist new recruits to join the Resistance. IDW Publishing has its own Galaxy’s Edge children’s comic in the works. Surprisingly, Insight Editions is also putting together a Star Wars-themed cookbook written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. Monroe-Cassel previously wrote cookbooks inspired by Game of Thrones and World of Warcraft.

Nintendo is further expanding its reach in the realm of mobile games, revealing a new partnership with LINE Corporation to co-develop and jointly operate a new game for smart phones.

The title will be a new action puzzle game featuring Dr. Mario titled Dr. Mario World to be released by Nintendo. Dr. Mario World is targeting an early summer 2019 global release, including Japan and the United States.

The medicine-themed puzzle spin-off of the proper Mario series first debuted in 1990, giving players the task of removing viruses by matching them together. Dr. Mario hasn’t seen quite as many titles in its line-up as other Mario spin-offs like Mario Kart or Mario Tennis, with only seven titles released across its 28 year history. Most recently was Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure on Nintendo 3DS in 2015.

Nintendo has expanded into the realm of mobile titles in recent years, developing their own versions of some of their iconic franchises for smart phones. Available now for players is Super Mario Run, a version of the platformer for phones, plus Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Dragalia Lost. Two other titles still in-development for mobile from Nintendo include Mario Kart Tour, set to arrive this summer, and a Legend of Zelda game which was announced in 2017.

Riverdale Spin-Off Katy Keene Won’t Crossover with Flagship Series

Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene won’t crossover with flagship series

Last week it was revealed that The CW had ordered a pilot for Katy Keene, a musical dramedy spin-off of Riverdale. Speaking today at TCA, CW president Mark Pedowitz said not to expect any characters from the main series to show up in the new series.

RELATED: The CW orders Jane & Riverdale spin-offs, plus Lost Boys & Nancy Drew

“Katy Keene takes places years after Riverdale High School,” Pedowicz said (via Deadline). “There are no plans to do anything [regarding a crossover]. Any of the Riverdale characters who come to Katy Keene will be older. Robert [Aguirre-Sacasa] is getting the pilot right.”

Much like the Netflix adjacent Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the shows will have a shared branding with their basis in Archie Comics but won’t see any crossing over in the foreseeable future.

Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twentysomething dreams in New York City. The musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi will executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater.

Charmed Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

Charmed Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

Charmed Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

In the previous episode of The CW’s Charmed, the Charmed Ones rescued Harry from Tartarus, and Macy discovered that she and Maggie share the same father. In Charmed season 1 episode 11, Macy broke the news to Maggie and Mel.

Love Letters

Unfortunately, Mel and Maggie didn’t take the news well, despite Macy’s excitement at another clue. Mel felt that she didn’t know Marisol if she kept so many secrets. For Maggie, it was a lot to handle after Parker and her stint in Tartarus.

Macy cast a spell to help her find the truth. She found a box of old letters between her father, Dexter, and Marisol. They wrote to each other up until he died and were still in love. He knew about Maggie and would give Marisol updates on Macy. However, when Macy shared the letters with Maggie, they found another devastating secret. Dexter and Marisol had done something to bring Macy back from the dead that could be unforgivable.

The Maestro

Charmed Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

The director of the Hilltones, the college’s acapella group, went to Athens and found an old pitch pipe. Mr. Miranda blew into it, and a demon possessed him. Maggie auditioned for the group right after hearing the news, and he loved her sad take on a normally happy song. Lucy was also in the group. They were on good terms. However, Lucy had an acapella nemesis, Effie, who always got the solo.

Mr. Miranda had the Hilltones drink a special tea. He arranged a mournful, dissonant version of “Killing Me Softly”, and gave Effie the solo. When she suggested something more upbeat, he trapped her soul. When Mr. Miranda said Effie quit and gave the solo to Lucy, Maggie touched the pipe hanging around his neck and heard Effie screaming for help.

The Book of Shadows told them that sirens used the pipe, so at the big performance, Maggie tried to vanquish him with a spell for sirens. Unfortunately, he wasn’t a siren, but their director, The Maestro. The notes the girls were singing were trapping the audience’s souls. They needed the Power of Three to vanquish him, but they needed to clear the air first. Galvin played “The Devil’s Tritone” on the pipe to release the trapped souls inside. Maggie got the Hilltones to sing a mash-up to reverse the effects of the song on the audience.

Immediate Justice

Charmed Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

Mel came clean to Jada about her reason for joining the Sarcana. Jada already knew since they had an empath, but she felt that Mel would come to understand their point of view. Together, they magically stopped a man at the club from putting a pill in a woman’s drink and administered their own magical justice.

Unfortunately, Niko was there; she had been taking pictures of Mel and Jada. She was working as a private investigator. Niko warned Mel about Jada being part of a cult. Mel told Jada about Niko and the investigation.
