Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is finally here, and we are recapping every episode of the season. Come along with us as we see how the legendary character has been re-imagined for TV.
Meet the New Chief
Jack almost ran into an oncoming car on his bike. The angry driver turned out to be Jim Greer, the new T-FAD Group Chief. He was reassigned after a disastrous incident in Karachi. During Jim’s first meeting with the analysts, he asked them to brief him on what they’d been working on. Jack covered Yemen, and he red-flagged suspicious SWIFT transactions (international money transfers). Jack believed that they were from a high-level target named Suleiman, the next Bin Laden.
Demarche
Jack found transactions all linked to an account for a shell corporation. They sent $9 million over six transactions, even though large amounts attract attention. Jack believed that whatever Suleiman was planning, he was ready now. He tried convincing Greer to order a demarche to freeze the account. Greer wasn’t convinced. However, Jack convinced a treasury officer to put in the request anyway.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
In Yemen, some trucks bearing men with guns arrived at a compound where Suleiman’s wife, Hanin, played with her children. Al Radwan brought an outsider to stay with them there on Suleiman’s request. She was wary of him. While bringing him tea, she watched him drop vials of liquid in olive oil bottles. He loaded the crate of olive oil onto a truck that drove away.
The Way the Wind Is Blowing
Greer knew Jack was behind the demarche and he was furious. He pointed out that leaving the account unfrozen could have helped them obtain more information. However, Jack’s instinct led to the capture of two men meeting with a bank manager.
Jack went to a party for former boss Joe Mueller from his days on Wall Street. He quickly realized Mueller invited him to get some State Department information for an investment decision. His encounter with Mueller’s daughter, Catherine, was interrupted when a coast guard helicopter landed to take him away.
Scars
Greer brought Jack with him to Yemen to help with interrogating the two captured men, Rahbini and Soufan. The soldier believed Rahbini had initiated the meeting while Soufan was his bodyguard. The interrogation was going nowhere, but Jack noticed Soufan react to words in English. He brought Soufan food and spoke with him.
Meanwhile, the soldiers outside paid a man for four dead bodies found after a drone strike. They would store the bodies to be identified later. However, one of the bodies was alive, and the other three were used to smuggle in parts of an assault rifle. The truck that brought the bodies came back and blew up the side of the military compound. It was a coordinated attack.
The inside man killed Rahbini; he was there to rescue Soufan, who was Suleiman. Jack fought him, but Soufan escaped with his rescuer. We saw a flashback depict two boys, both scarred from an attack. The boys were Suleiman and his brother, the man who helped him escape.

The Entire First Episode of Jim Carrey’s Kidding is Now Online
Imagine if Mr. Rogers had a mental breakdown in the modern era of social media. That;s essentially the premise behind Jim Carrey’s Kidding, a new dark comedy coming to Showtime. While Showtime is planning to officially premiere the series on Sunday, September 9, the network has dropped Kidding early. The first episode of the series is now live on Showtime’s official site, Facebook, and YouTube. You can watch the entire episode at the bottom of this post!
Within the series, Carrey is playing Jeff, but he’s better known to generations of kids as Mr. Pickles. For decades, Mr. Pickles has hosted a children’s show where he taught viewers lessons of love and kindness. However, those virtues won’t save Jeff when his family life becomes a personal crisis. It’s a cruel world, and none of Jeff’s make believe coping tactics can help him maintain his sanity. Jeff’s kindness is killing him, and he’s going insane in front of our eyes.
Frank Langella co-stars in the series as Seb, Jeff’s executive producer, with Judy Greer as Jeff’s ex-wife, Jill. Cole Allen is playing Jeff and Jill’s son, Will; while Catherine Keener is portraying Deirdre, Mr. Pickles’ head puppet maker. Juliet Morris is also on the show as Maddy, Deirdre’s daughter.
Kidding was created by Dave Holstein, who executive produces the series with Carey, Michel Gondry, Jason Bateman, and others. Justin Kirk (Weeds), Ginger Gonzaga (I’m Dying Up Here), and Tara Lipinski will have guest starring roles in the first season. Other guest starring performers include Betty Thomas, Danny Trejo, and Conan O’Brien as himself.

While Netflix’s The Innocents was touted as a supernatural teen romance, the first season brought a little more than the usual YA expectations. To close everything out, The Innocents season 1 recap is looking back at the three major storylines of the first eight episodes.
Harry and June
June’s 16th birthday arrived and she decided to run off with Harry. They had no idea that she was born with the ability to shape shift. June struggled with controlling and understanding her ability. The two of them tried to make a life together in London. However, they had no one they could truly trust. Harry feared what June’s shifting could do to him, and the couple parted ways.
After a warning from Kam, Harry and John followed June to Norway. They helped her and Elena escape the Sanctum. While Christine arrested Elena, they fled. However, a car crash forced June to shift into Harry and then Christine, leaving Harry in a catatonic state.
The Pennines Five
Christine had been obsessed with the Pennines Five case. Her husband, Lewis, was a victim and he became catatonic as a result. While shifted into Elena, June discovered what really happened. Elena and Lewis had an affair. Since love is a trigger for Elena’s ability, she shifted into Lewis while they were together. While shifted, she walked by a pub and ended up touching others. Elena shifted into them directly, instead of reverting back in between. This trapped the shifting subjects’ minds, leaving them catatonic after Elena shifted back.
Sanctum
Halvorson and his shifter community Sanctum weren’t what they seemed. Halvorson wasn’t just helping shifters control their abilities. He was in love with Runa, who had early dementia. To save Runa, he researched the evolution of shifting when the ability passed from mother to daughter. Daughters of shifters had the added power of accessing the memories of the shifted person and taking on their identities and personalities.
He first studied this added ability with Runa’s daughter, Freya. His abusive methods drove her away to become Kam in London. Halvorson then became obsessed with bringing June to Sanctum. He wanted June to become Runa and take on her persona and memories, while the real Runa faded away with dementia. Runa killed Halvorson when she understood what his real plan was.

Outlander Season 4 Poster Promises To “Brave the New World”
Last season on Outlander, Claire and Jamie finally made it to America…just not necessarily the way they wanted to. Claire and Jamie managed to survive a shipwreck before ending up on the Georgia shore. Of course, it’s not Georgia yet, but a brave new world awaits for Outlander’s favorite couple. And there’s even more danger ahead.
Starz has released a new Outlander season 4 poster that places Claire and Jamie on the side of a cliff as they look over their new home. The tag line for the season is ‘Brave the New World.”
Outlander season 4 will continue drawing upon Diana Gabaldon’s novels, particularly Drums of Autumn. Claire and Jamie have left the Highlands behind, but they may soon have a new nemesis when they meet Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), a pirate and a smuggler. Starz ominously hints that it will be “a fateful meeting that will come back to haunt the Fraser family.”
Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna Randall (Sophie Skelton), will also have an important role this season. While Brianna and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) look for proof that her parents reunited, they come across “a shocking discovery makes both of them consider following in Claire’s footsteps.”

HBO’s Miss Sherlock trailer for its first Japanese production
HBO’s Miss Sherlock, a modern-day twist on the iconic detective, is coming to TVs around the world. The series marks the premium cable channel’s first Japanese original production. You can check out the Miss Sherlock trailer below!
Miss Sherlock pays homage to the classic by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes, with bold interpretations of the iconic characters, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. Miss Sherlock is set in modern-day Tokyo and both lead characters are Japanese women – Dr. Wato Tachibana, a surgeon recently returned from a volunteer doctors’ mission in Syria and Sara Shelly Futaba, an investigation consultant to the police department who solves bizarre and difficult cases. Throughout the series, the pair solves mystery after mystery with Miss Sherlock’s extraordinary observation and reasoning skills.
The series stars Yuko Takeuchi as Sherlock, Shihori Kanjiya as Wato, and Ken’ichi Takitô as Inspector Reimon.
Miss Sherlock is a co-production between HBO Asia and Hulu Japan. New episodes will be available every Friday morning.
Jennifer Garner trains for justice in new Peppermint featurette
STX Entertainment has released a new featurette for the action/revenge movie Peppermint, Jennifer Garner explains her rigorous training regimen, as well as how it helped her connect with her character. See how Jennifer Garner trains in the featurette below!
Peppermint tells the story of young mother Riley North (Garner, Alias) who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. When the system frustratingly shields the murderers from justice, Riley sets out to transform herself from citizen to urban guerilla. Channeling her frustration into personal motivation, she spends years in hiding honing her mind, body and spirit to become an unstoppable force – eluding the underworld, the LAPD and the FBI- as she methodically delivers her personal brand of justice.
The film is directed by Pierre Morel, well known for his work in the action genre with the hits Taken and District 13, and will also star John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), John Gallagher, Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Method Man (Keanu), Richard Cabral (Lethal Weapon) and Tyson Ritter (Preacher). Peppermint was written by London Has Fallen screenwriter Chad St. John.
My Brilliant Friend teaser for HBO’s limited series
HBO has released the first teaser for its upcoming limited series My Brilliant Friend, which chronicles the lifelong friendship between two women who first meet as children in Italy circa-1950. You can check out the My Brilliant Friend teaser in the player below!
My Brilliant Friend tells the story of Elena Greco, a now-elderly woman immersed in a house full of books. When the most important friend in her life seems to have disappeared without a trace, Elena turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their friendship. She met Raffaella Cerullo, whom she has always called Lila, in the first year of primary school in 1950. Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives as she tries to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant friend — and in a way — her best friend, and her worst enemy.
Casting for the show took place over a period of eight months, with almost 9,000 children and 500 adults from all over Campania auditioning. The casting process included professional and non-professional actors, as well as students recruited from local schools. Newcomers Elisa Del Genio and Ludovica Nasti were chosen to portray the two lead roles of Elena and Lila as young children.
As production on the series progresses, these young actresses have given way to teenage actresses Margherita Mazzucco as Elena and Gaia Girace as Lila. In total, My Brilliant Friend is expected to include a cast of more than 150 actors and 5,000 extras.
The production’s construction team of 150 crew members has created 215,000 square feet of sets, which were built over 100 days. To recreate the neighborhood, the symbolic location of the story, they built 14 exterior apartment buildings, five interior sets of apartments, a church, and a tunnel. The costume department is gathering 1,500 costumes, many of which are originals.
My Brilliant Friend is being produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani for Wildside and by Domenico Procacci for Fandango in co-production with Umedia Production. All episodes will be directed by Costanzo, with story and screenplays by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci, and Costanzo. Jennifer Schuur is the executive producer. FremantleMedia International will act as the international distributor.
Production is currently underway in Caserta, Italy.
Cats movie release date takes its slot from the Wicked movie
Universal Pictures has given Working Title’s feature adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Broadway stage musical Cats a December 20, 2019 release date. Their other musical adaptation, Wicked, was originally set to release on that same date but is now being moved to accommodate its production schedule, Deadline has confirmed. The Cats movie release date shares some formidable competition in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX and Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express sequel Death on the Nile, with Sony’s Masters of the Universe bowing just prior on December 18.
Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen have all signed on to the musical adaptation. Hudson is in line to play Grizabella, the former Glamour Cat, while McKellen will reportedly play patriarch Old Deuteronomy. Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is set to direct the film from a script by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot). The outlet notes that there is a possibility Webber is writing a new song for the feature for Victoria, a perky white kitten, and there will be a twist involving her character.
First performed in 1981, Cats is the fourth longest-running show in Broadway as well as West End history, with a direct-to-video version of the production released in 1998. Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger-than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favorite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella, and Skimbleshanks.
The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
Working Title Films, who previously worked with Hooper on the hit 2012 film adaptation of Les Miserables, will produce the Cats movie in association with Monumental Pictures and The Really Use Group alongside Lloyd Webber and Deba Hayward. Executive producers include three-time Oscar winner Steven Spielberg, Lloyd Webber, and Angela Morrison.
Production on the feature adaptation will reportedly begin at the end of this year in the UK.
17 Bridges release date revealed for Chadwick Boseman action pic
Deadline has word that the action thriller 17 Bridges is eyeing a summer bow with a July 12, 2019 release date. Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War) is in place to star. The 17 Bridges release date currently has no other competition from any major studios — at least so far. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home opens on July 5, while Disney’s live-action The Lion King is set to drop one week later on July 19.
Directed by Brian Kirk (Luther, Game of Thrones) and written by Adam Mervis (The Philly Kid), 17 Bridges follows a disgraced NYPD detective (Boseman) who, after being thrust into a citywide manhunt for a cop killer, is given a shot at redemption.
Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Infinity War) are producing with Boseman and production partner Logan Coles, with Mike Larocca serving as executive producer for The Russo Brothers’ AGBO banner.
Adam Fogelson, Chairman of STXfilms, said: “STX has assembled a dream team of collaborators on 17 Bridges, bringing together the global talents behind two of the biggest action films ever made to give audiences a thrilling new take on the race against the clock crime-drama. Chadwick Boseman’s razor-sharp instincts and undeniable charisma captivated millions of people around the world in Black Panther, and Joe and Anthony Russo have breathed a new energy into the action genre with films like Avengers: Infinity War. Their unique and intelligent approach to filmmaking is anything but formulaic, and with Brian Kirk at the helm directing, this film promises to go beyond the typical popcorn fare.”
In addition to Boseman’s credits for his breakout role as T’Challa in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, he’s starred in the biopics 42, Marshall, Get on Up, and the drama Draft Day. Boseman and Coles are also set to produce the film adaptation of Hakeen Oluseyi’s memoir The Stars in My Soul. The duo worked together on 2016’s thriller Message From the King, which Boseman starred in and executive produced and Coles co-produced.
17 Bridges will start production in September 2018.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs segment details & poster revealed
The Playlist has reported new The Ballad of Buster Scruggs segmentdetails behind the Coen brothers anthology, along with a new poster which you can check out in the gallery below. What was once a six-part series will now be a two-plus-hour movie. Ahead of its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, here’s a breakdown of the six individual segments, which are expected to revolve around the film’s title character, played by Tim Blake Nelson.

Academy Award winners Joel and Ethan Coen will write and direct each of the six segments. Megan Ellison and Sue Naegle from Annapurna Television will also serve as executive producers, along with longtime Coen Brothers collaborator Robert Graf. Cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel (Inside Llewyn Davis, Darkest Hour) shot the film with the Arri Alexa camera, making The Ballad of Buster Scruggs the Coens’ first-ever digital photography production.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is slated for a November 16 release on the streaming service and in select theaters.
TV veteran actor Alan Tudyk has officially signed on to join the upcoming DC Universe live-action series Doom Patrol as the supervillain Mr. Nobody, according to Deadline.
Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities – but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find.
Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.
The Doom Patrol characters will appear in the fifth episode of Berlanti’s DC Universe live-action drama Titans, with Brendan Fraser, Bruno Bichir, April Bowlby, Jack Michaels, and Dwain Murphy starring. The direct-to-series order of 13 episodes will be written by Supernatural‘s Jeremy Carver and will be executive produced by Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter.
Tudyk is well-known for his work on the cult classic series Firefly and Amazon’s adaptation of the fan-favorite comic character The Tick, as well as numerous film roles over the years in such hits as Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He can be heard in the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2012 Disney hit, Ralph Breaks the Internet.
First The Conners photo as production begins on Roseanne spinoff
ABC Television Network’s The Conners spinoff — the series moving forward without Roseanne Barr after the Roseanne revival was swiftly canceled following Barr’s racist tweet — began production today with a first look photo revealed from the Warner Bros set (via Deadline). The photo features stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman, Lecy Goranson, Jayden Rey, Ames McNamara, and Emma Kenney. Check out the full Connors photo in the gallery below!
On the new show, after a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family — Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. — grapple with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns — with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.
Goodman recently made comments that Barr’s character would apparently be dead in the spinoff, saying that Dan will be “mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”
In June, The Conners was greenlit to series with an order of 10 episodes for fall 2018. The series, featuring John Goodman (“Dan”), Laurie Metcalf (“Jackie”), Sara Gilbert (“Darlene”), Lecy Goranson (“Becky”) and Michael Fishman (“D.J.”) as their beloved Conner characters, is set to air Tuesdays (8:00-8:30 p.m.).
Tom Werner will executive produce, along with Sara Gilbert, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen and Tony Hernandez. Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan and Bruce Rasmussen are also writers. The series is from Tom Werner and Werner Entertainment.
Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 character posters are ready to fight
Marvel’s Iron Fist has released a new pair of character posters ahead of the Netflix series’ Season 2 premiere next week. The posters feature both Colleen Wing and Danny Rand, aka The Immortal Iron Fist. You can check out the Iron Fist Season 2 character posters in the gallery below!
Marvel’s Iron Fist will once again star Finn Jones as the titular hero, Danny Rand. The cast for the series will also include the return of Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Sacha Dhawan as Danny’s childhood friend Davos. New additions include Alice Eve who will be playing the Marvel villain Typhoid Mary. In the pages of Marvel Comics, Typhoid Mary had pyro and telekinetic powers and was also a master swordsman.
In the second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist, Danny Rand, The Immortal Iron Fist and Colleen Wing set off on a new adventure as the protectors of Chinatown in NYC – where death, action and surprises await them around every corner. Raven Metzner has replaced Scott Buck as the new showrunner for the series.
Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 will premiere September 7 on Netflix.
Eminem releases Venom soundtrack song on surprise album
Yesterday, Eminem snuck in a song from the Venom soundtrack on his surprise album “Kamikaze,” which was released unexpectedly yesterday. The rapper revealed a 15-second clip of the song on Twitter yesterday, followed by the album’s full release. The track, titled “Venom – Music From The Motion Picture,” includes quite a few references to the film’s plot. Tom Hardy will portray Eddie Brock/Venom on the big screen. Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, and Woody Harrelson co-star in the film. If the movie is successful, Sony plans to give films to other Spidey characters, with Jackpot, Black Cat, Kraven the Hunter and Silver Sable all candidates to get their own movie. Morbius the Living Vampire already has Jared Leto lined up for the title role.
Venom will hail from Sony’s Marvel Universe of characters and will not be a spinoff of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, wherein Sony allows Spider-Man to be played by Tom Holland. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal, with Palak Patel and Eric Fineman overseeing for Columbia Pictures.
