The Hulk Is Midnight Suns’ Final Launch Hero

The Hulk Is Midnight Suns' Final Launch Hero

Developer Firaxis Games has run down most of the Midnight Suns roster from Blade to Ghost Rider, but it kept teasing that there was one final launch character to unveil. It wasn’t clear if their identity would be a spoiler, but now the studio has finally confirmed that this mystery hero is The Hulk.

The game’s official Twitter account posted the picture of the radioactive brute lunging at the camera and acknowledged the joke surrounding his reveal. Hulk was in prior trailers, so it wasn’t the biggest surprise that he was in the game.

However, he was under the influence of the game’s antagonist Lilith in that footage, meaning it wasn’t a complete given he’d be playable or even in the launch roster. For example, Venom is also in that same trailer, but is only playable in post-launch DLC.

Firaxis recently held a stream speaking about The Hulk and went through his abilities. The developers noted that he’s quite powerful because he’s unlocked so late into the game. Hulk also has a unique mechanic called Rage where his attacks get more powerful as he takes damage, but players spend Rage when they attack, meaning it is yet another resource to keep track of. His attacks are also generally quite powerful, yet they are balanced out by their hefty resource requirements.

Collaborators: All Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg Movies

Collaborators: All Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg Movies
Collaborators: All Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg Movies

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are a match made in cinema heaven. The actor’s everyman quality meshes perfectly with Spielberg’s old-fashioned magic, resulting in fanciful films that charm and delight audiences. While the pair haven’t collaborated since 2017’s The Post, we still thought it would be fun to look back at the movies they teamed up on, if only to remind our readers not to take these two talented artists for granted.

The Money Pit (1986)

Surprisingly, Hanks and Spielberg first teamed up in the mid-80s on The Money Pit, which chronicles a couple’s disastrous attempts to renovate a house. Hanks and co-star Shelly Long are saddled by a cookie-cutter script but still manage to squeeze out a few laughs via some well-executed physical comedy. Director Richard Benjamin keeps the film moving at a decidedly fast pace but loses his grip on the material in a third act that nose dives into unnecessary melodrama.

Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)

Spielberg’s fingerprints are all over this quirky, surprisingly deep John Patrick Shanley-directed production about a man suffering from a terminal disease (a brain cloud) who agrees to perform one last act of heroism by jumping into a volcano to save the tiny island of Waponi Woo. Goofy comedy abounds, but Shanley dives deeper and delivers a whimsical fantasy adventure that simultaneously touches the heart and soul. Meg Ryan (in the first of three team-ups with Hanks) co-stars as three very different women who each impact Hanks’ character in their own unique way. The movie features a terrific score by Georges Delerue.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Steven Spielberg’s powerful epic lacks the intricacy of better war films — like Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line, for example — but remains a visceral cinematic experience nonetheless. The opening D-Day sequence that kicks off the action is 30-minutes of pure terror and as fierce a sequence as Spielberg has ever produced. But it’s the finale, during which Captain John Miller (Hanks) and a ragtag group of battle-hardened soldiers defend a bridge from German troops, that makes the biggest impact — a stunningly executed set piece that’s as harrowing as it is thrilling. Saving Private Ryan is a technical tour de force, and one hell of a film.

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks shine in Steven Spielberg’s breezy comedy about real-life con artist Frank Abagnale Jr., who ran away from home at age 17, forged millions of dollars in checks, and masqueraded as a pilot, doctor, and lawyer in the 1960s. Co-starring Christopher Walken (in one of his best roles) and Martin Sheen, Catch Me If You Can ranks amongst Spielberg’s finest works thanks to its perfect blend of warm-hearted comedy and intimate drama. As such, it remains his best collaboration with Hanks to date.

The Terminal (2004)

The Terminal means well and boasts plenty of heart but gets stuck in a thick layer of cheesy Hollywood schmaltz. Tom Hanks stars as Viktor Navorski, a mild-mannered traveler from the fictional country of Krakozhia, who gets stuck at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. During his prolonged stay in the terminal, Victor meets new people, learns new skills, finds love with Catherine Zeta-Jones’ flighty flight attendant, and fends off grumpy Acting Field Commissioner Frank Dixon (played by a terrific Stanley Tucci). One of Steven Spielberg’s lesser efforts, The Terminal is an enjoyable, albeit sentimental, slice of entertainment.

Bridge of Spies (2015)

Bridge of Spies sees Tom Hanks caught up in an espionage tale involving a Soviet Union spy named Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance). Abel, you see, was captured by authorities and charged with spying on America for his homeland. Hanks’ character, James B. Donovan, is given the unflattering task of defending him. The two men form an unlikely friendship that hits a wall when Donovan is asked to negotiate a trade with the Soviets for an American pilot in exchange for Abel. Well-acted and written, Bridge of Spies is a handsome production that leans more on smarts than thrills to tell its fascinating true-life tale.

The Post (2017)

Meryl Streep is outstanding in Steven Spielberg’s captivating retelling of The Washington Post’s race to expose government secrets about the Vietnam War. Tom Hanks shines as editor Ben Bradlee, while Bob Odenkirk and a terrific ensemble offer strong supporting work. Still, Streep’s performance, Spielberg’s solid direction, and Liz Hannah and Josh Singer’s sharp screenplay raise The Post to extraordinary heights.

Bonus: Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010)

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg teamed up for HBO’s terrific miniseries Band of Brothers and The Pacific, which both delivered an emotional look at the horrors of WWII, replete with shocking violence and intense realism. It’s possibly one of the most captivating look at WWII ever produced and is not to be missed.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Concept Art Shows Namor's Early Design

New concept art of Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was shared over the weekend, giving fans an interesting look at how the character went from a drawing to the big screen.

RELATED: Why Namor Can’t Appear in His Own Spin-off Movie

Former Marvel Studios Senior Visual Development Artist Anthony Francisco recently shared a batch of Namor concept art to his Instagram page, with a message that thanked Marvel Studios for choosing his design as the one that made it to the screen. In the images, a Namor that looks almost identical to the one that was in the film can be seen, with Francisco also discussing some of the Mayan influences that would end up making his costume.

“The necklace for Namor was a treat to design,” said Francisco in his post. “Looking to Mayan glyphs and architecture for inspiration! But the break though would come in a dream! I would imagine that I was an artist living in that time and looking for work. This was when I saw the two serpents on the necklace in my dream. Then I woke from my dream and started designing with Kukulkan in mind. I explained that the two serpents represented the duality of Kukulkan.”

Check out the concept art for Namor below:

The design for the character, which Francisco notes started a year before production did, also saw the artist watching many different films. Francisco noted that he watched numerous documentaries on the Mayans, Olmecs, and Aztecs for his research, and also looked at the history of ancient indigenous people across the world, as well as the history of Mexico and its colonization.

Wakanda Forever saw the return of most of Black Panther‘s original main cast, including Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Florence Kasumba as Ayo. Joining them were franchise newcomers Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) as Namor, Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) as Aneka, Mabel Cadena as Namora, and Alex Livinalli as Attuma.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4 Review, Thoughts, and Theories

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4 Review, Thoughts, and Theories
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4 Review, Thoughts, and Theories

“This f—ing day.” That line by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) sums up Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4, which started strong but petered out midway through with one too many filler bits. Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) fight, John grumbles about his new job, Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Monica (Kelsey Asbille) mourn their child, Chief Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) stands around, the Bunkhouse Gang does some cowboying in a montage, Rip (Cole Hauser) acts like a badass, and Jamie gets drunk and boinks the enemy. Just another day in Yellowstone.

What Worked in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4

  • Beth chills in a jail cell alongside another gal recuperating from her run-in with the law. The pair chat about Beth’s reasons for getting locked up. “Some bitch from California tried to f*** my husband,” Beth says. “It’s always some bitch from California,” the girl responds, echoing my feelings on the NBA after every season.
    • Beth gets hit with a heavy dose of reality in this episode. Too often, she strides with her shoulders back, nose stuck in the air, confident the universe operates at her beck and call. Instead, she discovers Jamie’s child (aptly named Jamie Jr.) and earns a reprimand from her father during Kayce and Monica’s ceremony. “Impulse control,” John says. “Find some.” Outside of Jamie’s petty acts, the only thing capable of bringing down the Duttons is Beth’s manic behavior.
    • Beth threatens to snatch Jamie’s kid — “God gave you a boy?!” — which prompts our tortured dude to flip the f*** out and nearly run down his sister with his car. I understand why Beth hates Jamie, but she must comprehend how dangerous this guy is. Keep pushing, and Jamie will eventually push back, except harder and with far less control. How long will Taylor Sheridan keep adding fuel to the fire before he blows the whole thing up?
  • Jamie reminds us why he’s a tremendous legal mastermind in a subplot that, frankly, felt like the long way around to get Beth into her brother’s vehicle so she could see the car seat. Jamie pummels Beth’s bruised and battered victim (the lady who hit on Rip last week) with lawyer speak and gets her to drop all charges within minutes. His keen eye for legal matters is almost as thrilling as Beth’s business sense.
  • At this point, John is a walking political slogan: “When the educators’ luncheon is about teachers, I’ll go,” he snaps, a cowboy hat perched on his head. “Why do my policy advisors have policy meetings without me?” Every line uttered by John gets an amen from me, and I love the bit where he fires his entire policy committee for making bad policies without him. He saves the state millions in salary but will likely feel the sting of severance pay. Later, he asks Lynelle Perry what the point of his position as governor is. “All I do is go to middle schools,” he growls. She gives him a pep talk, noting that a visit from the governor in middle school inspired her to run for office. That’s fair, but John (and, by default, Sheridan) have a point: politics make little sense.
  • The Wolf Saga continues as the Fish and Wildlife boys arrive in John’s office and ask about the dead wolves. John makes a phone call to Rip. “Have we had any wolves messing with the cattle,” he asks. “Wolves? No, sir,” Rip replies over the speaker. John hangs up. “There you have it.” I love John’s no-BS approach to everything in his life.
  • This episode leaned hard on the children of our characters. Beth’s rage stems from her inability to have kids; Kayce and Monica lament the loss of their child; later, Rip worries about how the current state of the world will affect future generations. “It breaks my heart,” he says. “Hell, I don’t even have any kids.”
    • The not-so-subtle theme of Yellowstone and its prequel series, 1883, is the idea that the next generation is never as good as the one that came before, primarily due to the changing world around them. In 1883, James and Margaret Dutton (Tim McGraw and Faith Hill) contended with their progressive daughter Elsa (Isabel May); the upcoming 1923 likely focuses on Jacob Dutton’s (Harrison Ford) dealings with his son, John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale). Yellowstone explores John’s tumultuous relationship with his three remaining children. The Dutton family crumbles the more society intrudes on their property.

What Didn’t Work in Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4

  • Stop me if you’ve heard this: Kayce and Monica glumly meander about the wilderness and perform a sad ceremony for their kid. I honestly don’t care about either of these characters anymore.
  • Sarah Atwood seduces Jamie in a scene ripped straight out of Basic Instinct, replete with silly dialogue and over-the-top sex. Naturally, Beth secretly watches the scene and sees the family’s new enemy. Yellowstone continues to let Jamie make bad decisions to justify Beth’s rabid hatred. How much more interesting would the show be if Jamie, I don’t know, was a good man rather than a slimy weasel? Don’t get me wrong, I love the fiery relationship between Beth and Jamie, but there’s only so much a writer can do with that material. Having Jamie change for the better would make the situation much more complex.
  • The montage sequence felt forced on this go-round and all but killed the episode’s momentum. What’s more, the Bunkhouse Gang left no impact on the story. We have yet to see our motley crew do anything substantial this season. Even the wolf subplot feels more like a Rip problem than a Colby and Ryan one, while fan-favorite Teeter has spent her brief screentime shaving her armpits and playing cards. Where is the fallout from the bar fight? Are Colby and Ryan lying awake at night, worried about getting arrested for killing those wolves? Is Lloyd 100% square with Walker? I never thought I’d say this, but I miss Jimmy and his silly side stories. Hell, I miss the days when our Bunkhouse Crew had more to do.
    • Also, what’s going on with Travis (Sheridan) and the whole make money via the rodeo subplot established last season? Is Yellowstone doing well financially? I need something, people!
  • Chief Rainwater continues to do nothing. He approaches John during Kayce and Monica’s ceremony but remains oddly disconnected from the main plot, even though the loss of the airport undoubtedly impacts his casino. I’d like to see him take more action on the Duttons.
  • Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo) returns to pleasure John some more. I can’t say I was excited to see the character, but at least she knows what she’s getting herself into in Round 2. “Think of all the hard work I did to put you in prison,” Beth snaps. “Think of all the hard work I’m doing to stay out,” Summer replies before rejoining John in the sack. This episode had a lot of sex — not gratuitous Season 1-2 sex, mind you, but people were bumpin’ uglies all over the place. Unfortunately, no one was having fun. Sarah’s bathroom fling with Jamie was all business — at least for her — while Summer merely placates John to keep her ass out of jail. Do better in bed, Yellowstone.

MVP: Um, no one stood out this week. Beth was too disheveled to make much of an impact, while Jamie was too Jamie. Rip had nothing to do with the episode, and John meandered in and out of scenes without purpose. Shout out to John’s assistant, Clara (Lilli Kay), for putting up with the newly elected governor’s shenanigans.

Best Line: “I am the wrath of a woman scorned. Call it what you will,” Beth responds when asked if she’s a criminal.

What Happens Next: Again, I’m still determining. This episode didn’t move the needle in any direction. In fact, this season has yet to establish an actual plot. Things happen in each episode, but it still feels like Sheridan is serving up entrees before the main course. At this point, we have three essential storylines: A) John’s role as governor; B) Beth vs. Jamie; and C) Sarah vs. the Duttons. Due to his actions, John will face direct opposition as governor (maybe even from Jamie). Jamie will strike back at Beth and win a few rounds before his sister dismantles him for good; Sarah will appear to gain the upper hand on the Duttons, only to realize she has walked right into Beth’s trap.

Of course, this can only happen in the final two episodes, so we must endure more filler content until Sheridan finally lights the fuse.

Final Thoughts: While not a bad episode of Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 4 felt more filler than necessary.

SCORE: 7/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 7 equates to “Good.” A successful piece of entertainment that is worth checking out, but it may not appeal to everyone.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Phases Ranked Following MCU Phase 4

Marvel Cinematic Universe Phases Ranked Following MCU Phase 4
Marvel Cinematic Universe Phases Ranked Following MCU Phase 4

With Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominating the box office and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special charming households across the world, we thought it was time to rank the four Marvel Cinematic Universe phases from worst to best and determine whether the franchise is headed in the right direction, or in dire need of a recharge.

Spider-Man: No Way Home & the Second Chance Comic Villains (& Heroes) Almost Never Get

4) MCU Phase 4

• WandaVision
• The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
• Black Widow
• Loki
• What If…?
• Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
• Eternals
• Hawkeye
• Spider-Man: No Way Home
• Moon Knight
• Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
• Ms. Marvel
• Thor: Love and Thunder
• She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
• Werewolf By Night
• Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
• The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Phase 4 is not as awful as numerous YouTubers and bloggers will suggest. There are high points within, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, most of Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (which is excellent, by the way). The biggest problem with this current era is that far too many mediocre entries feel haphazardly slapped together by committee — and none offer a cohesive storyline.

On the big screen, Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offer sporadic fun but are largely forgettable; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s convoluted plot outweighs its lofty ambitions. Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder are practically unwatchable.

Marvel’s television offerings got off to a promising start with the occasionally bewitching WandaVision. However, subsequent series, including Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel, were more frustrating than captivating. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law flat-out sucked.

Moreover, none of the films or TV shows in Phase 4 feel connected like previous MCU installments. So what’s the overarching story? Who is the next big bad? Why does every villain emerge from a past organization that ignored Thanos and the Snap? We’ll have to wait for Phase 5 in hopes of a more cohesive story, which is a real negative for the latest grouping of MCU offerings.

3) MCU Phase 1

• Iron Man
• The Incredible Hulk
• Iron Man 2
• Thor
• Captain America: The First Avenger
• The Avengers

Few predicted the unprecedented success that would emerge from Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, a strictly by-the-numbers action vehicle largely carried by Robert Downey, Jr.’s effortless charisma. The modestly budgeted superhero flick lacks the big-budget spectacle of modern-day MCU offerings, but that’s what makes it great. RDJ (and a well-cast Gwenyth Paltrow) deserves all the credit for Marvel’s early success.

By contrast, The Incredible Hulk is a joyless affair, Iron Man 2 and Thor are muddled, and Captain America: The First Avenger feels like a bland imitation of Indiana Jones and The Rocketeer.

Still, said films introduced likable characters, provided mild entertainment, and left audiences pining for more. And thanks to some well-executed post-credit sequences that competently teased the next entry, these early offerings played more like big-budget TV shows — you had to see what happens next, even if the current episode lacked appeal.

Then came The Avengers. Yes, the first superhero team-up flick has lost some of its luster over the years, but make no mistake: The Avengers was a huge deal when it hit theaters in 2012 — so much so that it all but stole The Dark Knight Rises’ thunder that summer. Whedon’s sharp, quippy, smart-ass dialogue set the tone for the remaining MCU, for better or worse, and truly changed the way studios approached superhero films from that point on. I have my nitpicks, but overall The Avengers is an enjoyable bit of pop culture entertainment and remains one of the better blockbusters of the last decade. This is the film that truly gave the MCU its legs.

2) MCU Phase 2

• Iron Man 3
• Thor: The Dark World
• Captain America: The Winter Soldier
• Guardians of the Galaxy
• Avengers: Age of Ultron
• Ant-Man

Phase 2 stumbled with Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron, a follow-up to The Avengers that unfortunately fails to move the needle in either direction like its predecessor. Still, this period also gave us Captain America: Winter Soldier, perhaps the best MCU flick to date, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the divisive Iron Man 3, which I absolutely adore. Ant-Man was also a pleasant surprise, even if I’m still annoyed that Marvel kicked Edgar Wright off the project. Talk about a missed opportunity!

That said, the Russo brothers pumped Marvel with a much-needed edge, turned Captain America into a badass, and composed the series’ most thrilling action sequences. So if Joss Whedon gave the MCU its voice, the Russos packed it full of muscle.

Jon Favreau Tried to Stop Russo Brothers From Killing Iron Man

1) MCU Phase 3

• Captain America: Civil War
• Doctor Strange
• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
• Spider-Man: Homecoming
• Thor: Ragnarok
• Black Panther
• Avengers: Infinity War
• Ant-Man and the Wasp
• Captain Marvel
• Avengers: Endgame
• Spider-Man: Far From Home

Marvel’s rise to dominance took some time to forge. The initial phases offered a strange mix of spectacular highs (Captain America: Winter Soldier) and curious lows (Iron Man 2). However, there was at least a clear-cut destination that kept audiences invested during the meager offerings.

Luckily, Marvel rewarded our patience with a spectacular Phase 3 that catapulted the franchise into something akin to legendary status. Despite a few speedbumps (notably, Captain Marvel and the lackluster Doctor Strange), Phase 3 delivered some of the MCU’s most outstanding chapters to date, including Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and the one-two punch of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

As time goes by, we may look back on Phase 3 as the peak of the MCU, especially considering the lackluster offerings the studio has since released.

Eraser Head cuts his leg off to avoid the effect of the Quirk-killing bullet. However, Shigaraki manages to get close to him briefly before Todoroki arrives at the scene. Iida and the others find out about Gigantomachia through the news. Gigantomachia continues to be on the move, destroying everything in his path. The U.A. students who tried to stop him felt hopeless. Meanwhile, Ujiko rejoices after realizing that Gigantomachia is on his way to Shigaraki.

Midoriya notices that Shigaraki’s body can’t keep up with the power transferred to him. Before Shigaraki could use Decay, Midoriya uses One For All: Seventh to keep everyone in the air. However, he couldn’t maintain it and his allies return to the ground. Meanwhile, Bakugo tells Midoriya that he should be the one who stays away from Shigaraki. Midoriya says there’s no one else who can keep Shigaraki in the sky. Bakugo remembers a conversation with All Might during one of Midoriya’s training sessions. He asks him about the fourth One for All users.

Midoriya starts continuously attacking Shigaraki, even if it causes great damage to his body. Bakugo, Endeavor, and Todoroki fly up so Endeavor can use Prominence Burn on Shigaraki. While Shigaraki is burned, he hears the voice of All for One calling him. He suddenly releases something out of his body to shove Endeavor away. Before Shigaraki could do the same to Midoriya, Bakugo jumps in front of him and gets stabbed instead.

Dwayne Johnson Reveals WB Didn’t Want Henry Cavill Back as Superman

Dwayne Johnson Reveals WB Didn't Want Henry Cavill Back as Superman

The recently released DC film Black Adam saw the much-anticipated return of Henry Cavill as Superman, a move that actor Dwayne Johnson says Warner Bros. Discovery initially didn’t want to happen.

RELATED: Watch First 10 Minutes of Black Adam as Movie Gets Digital Release

In a new video celebrating Black Adam becoming the No. 1 movie on iTunes, Johnson praises Cavill’s return, noting that if they wanted to establish Black Adam as one of the most powerful beings in DC, they had to bring back “the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe,” which of course is Superman.

However, Johnson then seemingly takes some shots at the higher-ups of the then-DC Films, noting that they “inexplicably and inexcusably” did not want Cavill to return. While Johnson didn’t speak much more about that, he did note that they weren’t going to take no for an answer, and continued to fight for Cavill’s return.

“And you guys know who I’m talking about. Of course, that is Superman, and that’s Henry Cavill,” Johnson said. “And at the end of the day, the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back, inexplicably and inexcusably. But we weren’t going to take no for an answer. Myself, my Seven Bucks co-founder and chairwoman, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, our Seven Bucks president. This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back. And years of strategic conversations, and we were not gonna take no for an answer.”

Johnson went on to say that it simply made no sense from a strategic and business standpoint to continue building out the DC Universe and not have Superman involved in it. The star then went on to say that Cavill is “our generation’s Superman,” and “the greatest Superman,” in his opinion.

“And also, something else to think about is, for us, there was no way, there’s no viable, logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines,” said Johnson. “It’s impossible to do. You can Venn diagram, business-wise, this whole thing 90 different times. But it all comes back to, ‘Where’s Superman?’ You have to have Superman in the mix.

“So that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill. And there was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back. Henry Cavill is our generation’s Superman and, in my opinion, the greatest Superman. And I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve. But the greatest Superman of all time.”

In the series finale, both Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) share an emotional goodbye, a scene that featured the only two remaining original Season 1 characters on the show getting to talk for an extended period. In the scene, Daryl — who is readying to depart for his own journey — says he wishes that Carol was joining him, to which Carol says she knows, before calling Daryl her best friend and the pair expressing their mutual love for each other before Daryl departs.

Speaking to Deadline on the moment, Kang — who has served as a writer and producer for The Walking Dead, as well as being its showrunner for the final three seasons — was asked about the moment. For some time, Kang said, the intial plan was to have Carol ride off with Daryl, but after McBride left the series in April, things had to change.

“Daryl and Carol, obviously, there were some changes that happened really late in the game in terms of like, what was happening with the spin-off,” said Kang. “And so, it’s a little different than we initially imagined, up until very, very close to the end of this. We thought she was going to ride off with him. And so, we chose to just make it about they’ve each chosen for their various reasons to go one way or another, and that relationship isn’t over, which is true. This is not just something we’re saying in the past. That story has to resolve itself.”

While it’s unknown if McBride will ever join the planned spin-off, the final scene between the two did seem to hint that they would meet again in the future, something Kang herself acknowledged.

“Yeah, and at least now that felt like the best way to kind of deal with their story because we know that it’s like they are going in separate directions, but they’ll eventually come together at some point,” Kang said.

As for now, fans will have to wait to see if McBride ever returns as Carol. In the meantime, The Walking Dead universe will continue to grow, with a planned Rick and Michonne spin-off series in the works, the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead continuing, and The Walking Dead: Dead City also in the works, which is set to feature the duo of Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising their roles as Maggie and Negan.

The sophomore season of Gossip Girl‘s reboot is here.

Starting on Thursday, December 1, fans can watch the premiere of Gossip Girl Season 2 on HBO Max. Based on the bestselling novels by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original show, Gossip Girl is written and executive produced by Joshua Safran, who also serves as showrunner. It stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, Savannah Lee Smith, and Grace Duah.

“It’s the second semester of Junior year, and Gossip Girl is leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives/spin the scandalous lies of Manhattan’s elite,” reads the synopsis. “She’s learned a thing or two from her first go-round — namely, what her audience wants, they shall get. It’s time for her to turn the heat up on what’s been simmering (Julien, have you met Monet?) as well as look at her own impact and how she can make it more catastrophic than it was before. Even if that means lying to do it. Old enemies, new allies, constantly shifting sands — this semester, there can only be one queen, and by the end of the school year, everyone will know where the bodies are buried and just who was holding the shovel.”

Gossip Girl is produced by Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios. Executive producers also include Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Fake Empire, Leslie Morgenstein, and Gina Girolamo of Alloy Entertainment. Lis Rowinski of Fake Empire serves as co-executive producer.
