No Exit: Joseph Kosinski to Direct True Firefighter Tale

Joseph Kosinski will direct No Exit.

TRON Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski has signed on to direct the true firefighter tale No Exit

TRON Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski has, according to a story today at Variety, lined up a new feature in the form of No Exit. Scripted by Black Hawk Down scribe Ken Nolan, No Exit will tell the true story of the Prescott Arizona Fire Department’s Granite Mountain Hotshots. Tasked with fighting wildfires, the 20 man crew risked it all when lightning ignited the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013. Over a period of nearly two weeks, the Granite Mountain Hotshots bravely battled and, eventually, defeated the massive flames. The expense was great, however, as the incident claimed the lives of all but one of the Hotshots’ crew.

No Exit is set up through Black Label Media, Conde Nast Entertainment and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mike Menchel.

Plans for what would become No Exit were first announced back in 2014. At that time, several of the same producers were developing a feature tentatively titled Granite Mountain Hotshots. That iteration of the project had Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace‘s Scott Cooper attached to direct. It was said at the time that Brendan McDonough, the sole survivor of the Hotshots would, along with Amanda Marsh, the widow of the team’s leader, Eric Marsh, serve as a consultants on the film.

After making his feature debut with TRON Legacy, Joseph Kosinski went on to direct the science fiction tale Oblivion. When plans for a third TRON film were cancelled at Walt Disney Pictures, Kosinski was said to be in talks for Sony PicturesGran Turismo video game adaptation. The current status of that project is unknown.
