New Riverdale photos from two horror movie inspired episodes

The CW has released the first photos from the next two episodes of Riverdale, and just in time for Halloween as they both reference two classic horror movies. Check them out in the gallery below!

The first is episode 2.04, titled “Chapter Seventeen: The Town That Dreaded Sundown” which is a reference to the 1976 horror film of the same name but even more funny is that film’s remake/sequel (also titled The Town That Dreaded Sundown) was written by series showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Set to air Wednesday November 1, it is described as follows:

“When Archie’s attempt to take matters into his own hands spirals out of control, Mayor McCoy (guest star Robin Givens) calls an emergency town hall meeting to deal with the growing chaos in Riverdale. Meanwhile, when Betty finds herself at the center of a deepening mystery, her decision to keep some parts of it from Jughead causes further friction between the two. Elsewhere, Veronica grows concerned for Archie when she realizes the lengths he would go to seek revenge against the person terrorizing Riverdale. Finally, tensions between the North and Southside finally come to a head and leads to an unexpected showdown.”

Allison Anders directed the episode, which was written by Amanda Lasher.

The second is episode 2.05, titled “Chapter Eighteen: When A Stranger Calls,” referencing the 1979 horror movie of the same. Set to air Wednesday, November 8 it is officially described as follows:

“When Alice (Madchen Amick) publishes a fiery piece in the Riverdale Register blasting the Southside, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) is forced to take matters into his own hands to try and keep the peace. Betty (Lili Reinhart) turns to Archie (KJ Apa) for help after receiving an ultimatum that could potentially destroy some of her closest relationships. With their SoDale open house fast approaching, Hiram (Mark Consuelos) and Hermoine (Marisol Nichols) enlist the help of an unlikely ally to get some potential investors on board. Finally, Veronica (Camila Mendes) welcomes her old friend Nick St. Clair (guest star Graham Phillips) to Riverdale, but his plans for a wild night with the gang quickly takes an unexpected turn.”

Ellen Pressman directed the episode which was written by Aaron Allen.

KJ Apa stars as Archie Andrews in the series along with Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom.

Based on the characters from Archie Comics, Riverdale hails from Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, in association with Berlanti Productions, with executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater.
