Indie film studio A24 has given the green light to After Yang, an adaptation of the Alexander Weinstein short story Saying Goodbye to Yang. Deadline reports that Colin Farrell is set to star in the film, which was written and will be directed by Kogonada. The writer/director was born in South Korea and made his debut with the 2017 John Cho vehicle Columbus.

The film will follow a father and his daughter as they fight to save the life of their robotic family member.

Theresa Park will produce with Cinereach. Park initiated the film via her Capita Productions banner, who had teamed up with Cinereach last summer to buy the short story, then set Kogonada to adapt it. She will also be producing with Blossom Films’ Nicole Kidman and Per Saari an adaptation of the Janice Y.K. Lee novel The Expatriates, which Amazon has recently ordered to series.

Farrell, meanwhile, is set to star in the BBC’s upcoming whaling drama The North Water, which is slated to begin production this fall. He’ll also star in director Guy Ritchie’s latest crime drama, Toff Guys. He can also be seen in Tim Burton’s upcoming live-action adaption of Disney’s Dumbo.
