Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6 Episode 8 Recap
In the previous episode of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake and Holt caught a honeypot working for Kelly. Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 episode 8 was directed by Stephanie Beatriz and followed Amy as she and Jake worked to prove a woman was sexually assaulted in her workplace, while Holt believed his old nemesis, the Disco Strangler, survived a fiery crash.
Good Guy, Extremely Professional Work Environment
An investment banker, Keri Brennan, broke a coworker’s penis because he had sexually assaulted her. Seth, the accused coworker, denied it, turning the case into a he-said-she-said situation. Their company offered Keri $2.5 million to sign an NDA and not file charges against Seth. Amy urged her not to take it, so Keri decided to press charges. Rosa pointed out there wasn’t any concrete evidence and thought that Keri should’ve at least walked away with the money. Amy disagreed and hoped that Keri’s coming forward would inspire other women to come forward.
When Amy and Jake went to Keri’s company, all the employees they interviewed gave canned answers that exonerated Seth and the company. At a dead end, Amy stayed up to do more research but couldn’t find anything. Amy revealed to Jake that her first captain had tried to kiss her after she made detective, demanding a “thank you” for getting her the position. The incident made her transfer to the Nine-Nine, but she’d never told anyone before because she feared others would think she hadn’t earned her rank.
Different Atmosphere
One of the employees, Steve was willing to speak with Amy and Jake away from the office. He had a text chain from Seth where his description of the night’s events matched Keri’s. Steve wasn’t motivated by feminism; he wanted Seth’s job.
Keri won her case, but she quit her job. Everyone at work treated her differently and excluded her from outings. Still, she thanked them for helping win her case. When they got back to the Nine-Nine, Rosa pointed out a woman from Keri’s office who was inspired to report her own assault.
The Disco Strangler
The Disco Strangler had reportedly died in a fire when his prison transport crashed. However, Holt believed he had escaped. Even after seeing the coroner, Holt believed the Disco Strangler was still alive. Everyone else dismissed him as being a helpless old man. They had Holt believing he was just trying relive the glory days.
A satellite photo proved the Disco Strangler was still alive. The van driver had fallen in love with him and crashed the car on purpose to help him escape, just as Holt suspected. Holt caught the Strangler and sent him back to prison.
