The Marvel Cinematic Universe might have seen its ultimate peak and the departure of a few characters with this year’s Avengers: Endgame, but it’s not going anywhere any time soon and star Mark Ruffalo is hoping to finally get his solo Hulk movie in the form of Hulk vs. Wolverine. (Via CBR)

At Tokyo Comic-Con, Ruffalo revealed he sat down with Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige for the possibility of bringing the story to life on the big screen with his iteration of the titular green superhero.

“Kevin Feige just asked me last week if I had any more ideas or stories for the Hulk,” Ruffalo told the con. “And I said yeah, I think there’s still some stories to tell. And he said, ‘Well why don’t you come in and tell me about them and we’ll see if we can find a place for you in the Marvel universe?… I’d like to see that. Hulk versus Wolverine.”

Though Hulk and Wolverine have existed in two separate film franchises for over a decade now, they have crossed over before in the comics, including Wolverine’s first appearance in a fight between the two and Wendingo in Len Wein, Roy Thomas and John Romita Sr.’s The Incredible Hulk #181 in 1974. Given the merger between Fox and Disney and all Marvel Comics rights held by the former studio heading back to Marvel Studios, Ruffalo’s idea could spark a possible way to begin crossing over or introducing the X-Men franchise into the MCU.

After making his theatrical debut in 2003 with the mixed reviewed Hulk, the green superhero would get another shot at the big screen with 2008’s The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton in the titular role and set in the MCU with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark appearing prior to the credits to set up The Avengers. After losing Norton to the role over reported creative conflicts between the actor and the up-and-coming studio, Ruffalo took over the role for the first crossover team-up blockbuster and was very positively received by fans and critics alike.
Plans to make another solo Hulk film have been in fluctuation going all the way back to Ruffalo’s first outing, with the actor and Feige stating no plans were underway to make one right after Avengers while a growing fan base surrounding his portrayal has made it more likely over the years, the only obstacles appearing to be finding a true creative path for the film and dealing with Universal still holding distribution rights to the character.
