Saw X Wraps Production, Director Pens Note for Fans

Director Kevin Greutert took to social media to celebrate the wrapping of production on the upcoming Saw X, praising the team behind the film and saying he can’t wait to begin editing it.

In a series of tweets on Friday, Greutert — who has directed two other Saw films, Saw 3D and Saw VI — shared photos of the film’s wrap party, as well as a thread on what he calls “one of the most rewarding and epic experiences in my life.” Greutert revealed that, while it was a tough shoot (and one that saw him get COVID during the end of production) he is incredibly excited about the beginning of the editing process and what’s to come.

“Just wrapped shooting on Saw X, and though the challenges were huge (easy films are rarely worthwhile in the end), it was one of the most rewarding and epic experiences of my life,” said Greutert. “Cast and crew were firing on all cylinders. though almost everyone involved was new to the Saw universe, and I got COVID in the final 2 weeks of production, and the movie was made entirely on edgy locations here in Mexico City. My fingers are trembling with anticipation as I look forward to starting to edit.”

The director also noted that he hopes to keep the working title of Saw X as the name of the film, noting that it “gets back to the roots of what makes Saw so special.” He then praised the entire cast, including returning star Tobin Bell, as well as others that worked on the film.

“I hope we can use the title Saw X because this chapter really gets back to the roots of what makes Saw so special to me and everyone else who loves John Kramer’s saga,” Greutert said. “Heartfelt thanks to all the cast, not all of whom I can name here but including Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Lund, Steven Brand, Renata Vaca…and everyone else who helped make this happen, as well as producers Mark Burg, Oren Koules, Ulrich Maier, Erick Ahedo and Lionsgate for trusting me with this blood-spitting beast of a story. This is an incredible day for me, can’t wait for the world to see the final movie.”

The latest Saw film, Spiral, was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who previously helmed Saw IISaw III, and Saw IV. The film was generally considered to be a disappointment, with the project receiving mixed reviews and only making about $40 million at the box office.
