James Gunn: Marvel-DC Movie Crossover ‘Has Been Discussed’

The worlds of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe may be similar in concept, but the film worlds have never collided. According to filmmaker and new co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn, it’s something that has been discussed before.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Gunn was asked if he could be the potential bridge between a crossover of the MCU and DCU. Gunn said that nothing like that would be happening in the immediate future, but that he would be lying if he said he hadn’t spoken to folks on both sides about it.

“Who knows? That’s many years away, though,” Gunn said. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

Of course, prior to his new role as head of DC Studios, Gunn was working with Marvel Studios on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Now, though, he’ll be tasked with rebooting the DC Universe and potentially building it up to be on the level that the MCU is at.

Earlier this year, Gunn teased some of what to expect in the form of a slate of new films and television projects, most notably a Superman film that he will write and direct.

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
