Welcome to the slow movie season, folks. Without any new high-profile pictures released, Paramount’s Mean Girls and MGM’s The Beekeeper remained atop the charts with $11.7 million (-59%) and $8.4M (-49%) apiece, per Deadline. To date, Mean Girls, a musical remake of the 2004 Lindsey Lohan comedy, has accrued $50M through two weeks, while the David Ayer/Jason Statham action picture has punched its way to $31.1M.
Elsewhere, the romantic comedy Anyone But You continues to perform well, earning $5.4M (-24%) in its fifth week, raising its domestic total to $64.2M. More impressively, the Sydney Sweeney/Glen Powell pic crossed $100M worldwide and is now the highest-grossing R-rated rom-com since 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby.
Bleecker Street’s space thriller I.S.S. opened in 2,520 theaters, where it earned $3M, while the concert pic Queen Rock Montreal collected $2M from 387 Imax screens.
Regarding upcoming films, we’re a few weeks away from Matthew Vaughn’s action comedy Argylle, starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, and Henry Cavill. Maybe that pic can inject some life into the winter season.
