Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has arrived in theaters, and Warner Bros. Pictures isn’t cooling down as production on its follow-up, Justice League, is scheduled to begin in a few weeks. Speaking with Yahoo, director Zack Snyder spoke about the movie and the classic film that will influence its story.

“It’s an intense, awesome, and gigantic undertaking because Bruce [Wayne] is having to go out and sort of ‘Seven Samurai’ the Justice League together, which is fun… It’s slightly monumental, and at the same time they’re starting to grapple with this coming threat.”

Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai was released in 1954 and tells the story of a village that assembles a team of samurai to fight off a group of bandits. The plot device used in the film has gone on to be an influential storytelling motif in the decades since its release, having been used in the likes of The Guns of Navarone, The Magnificent Seven, and even Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

Snyder will direct the film, making it his third DC project in a row, from a script by Argo‘s Chris Terrio. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot star as the DC Trinity, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in the film with Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Amber Heard is set to play Queen Mera in the film as well before moving to the solo Aquaman movie in 2018, with J.K. Simmons set to appear as Commissioner Gordon. Justice League filming will take place in London and Iceland.

Justice League will debut in theaters on November 10, 2017.
