Captain America grosses $38.7 million internationally in two days

While North American moviegoers will have to wait until the evening of May 5th, Captain America grosses from international markets are already starting to come in. Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opened yesterday in an additional 15 international markets spread across all three regions to take the total number opened to date to 30 territories. The film, which has earned $38.7 million in two days, continues to place at #1 in all markets while pacing on par with Avengers: Age of Ultron in the same suite of markets. “Age of Ultron stands as the highest-grossing superhero movie internationally, with $946 million.

Captain America: Civil War continues rolling out this weekend and will be open in 63% of the international marketplace by Sunday. Today sees further openings in Spain, the UK, Japan and Mexico along with Iceland, Venezuela, Paraguay and Ecuador. It will then be open in all key territories except for Italy, Russia, China and Argentina that all open next weekend.

Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

The film features the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, this time joined by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Falcon, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine.

Sebastian Stan is also back as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa / Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter / Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow / Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, and Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man.

Captain America: Civil War was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
