Over the holidays, Ned (Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter (Deutch) at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned’s panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.

John Hamburg (I Love You Man, Along Came Polly) directs Why Him? from a script he co-wrote with Ian Helfer (The Oranges). The film is produced by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour.

Cranston and Franco previously teamed for the John Steinbeck adaptation In Dubious Battle. The feature, which also stars Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Vincent D’Onofrio, Danny McBride and Selena Gomez, does not yet have an official release date, but should tentatively hit the big screen sometime this fall.
