Fans of the Arrow-verse will be pleased to hear that CW president Mark Pedowitz believes the upcoming crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths will be the network’s most ambitious project to date.

Pedowitz was on hand to make the announcement during the 2019 Television Critics Association winter press tour, and he didn’t mince words, proclaiming (via Entertainment Weekly), “It will be the biggest, the most complicated one that they’ve done, but I am proud to say that they are doing it and we are supporting them.”

That’s no small task considering the large scale of last December’s Elseworlds crossover that featured the likes of Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), Flash (Grant Gustin), Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), and the newly introduced Batwoman (Ruby Rose).

During the events of Elseworlds, the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) warned the heroes of the impending “Crisis.” Crisis on Infinite Earths was written by Marv Wolfman and drawn by George Perez in 1985. It featured a villain known as the Anti-Monitor, who battled Superman, Supergirl, Batman, the Flash, and dozens of heroes from across the multiverse. The Anti-Monitor wanted to wipe out all of existence, and very nearly succeeded. The heroes and villains from the various Earths eventually formed an alliance and defeated the Anti-Monitor. However, they suffered heavy losses, including Barry Allen and Supergirl.

“I can’t tell you if it will follow the comic book version, but it will take some big swings,” Pedowitz said.

However, the CW president would neither confirm nor deny the appearance of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow in the anticipated event, though he said he hoped it would happen.

“It’s going to be the biggest one we ever did,” he said. “The only reason Legends wasn’t in this year was the complications in production of doing these things. We don’t want to wear out everybody before the season ends. But we’re talking about a number of different ways to go. It is Crisis on Infinite Earths and if you know the history, things collapse.”

Crisis on Infinite Earths will arrive on The CW in the fall.
