Arrow's Final Season Begins Shooting!

Production begins on Arrow’s final season

Like Iron Man back in 2008, Arrow was a groundbreaking hit for the superhero TV genre and spawned an ever-expanding universe around it, but after seven years The CW series is coming to an end and showrunner Beth Schwartz took to Twitter to announce shooting on the eighth and final season has begun!

When the series premiered in 2012, Arrow launched a sprawling universe (or “Arrowverse”) of CW shows based on DC comics characters. The second season famously introduced Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen, who later headlined The Flash. It also paved the way for annual crossover events that starred Stephen Amell, Gustin, Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl, and more. It’s not clear how the show’s conclusion will affect future crossovers. However, Amell could always be recruited for occasional guest-appearances an any of The CW’s other series.

Amell subsequently shared a much longer video on his Facebook page. In the video, Amell explains that he decided to leave Arrow behind near the end of the sixth season. He went on to relate his discussions with the show’s creative team, before they came to a mutual decision to end the series.

The announcement was also accompanied by an official statement (via IGN) from series producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Beth Schwartz: “This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind.  We’re heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”
