Quibi, the upcoming streaming service that doles out its content in seven-to-10 minute chunks, is looking to revive Varsity Blues for its platform.

According to Deadline, the service, set to launch in April, is looking to rework the film and two of its original producers, Mike Tollin and Tova Laiter, are along for the ride. Tripper Clancy (Stuber) will write the script, and Anne Fletcher (Dumplin’) will direct. Tollin and Laiter will executive produce alongside John Gatins.

For all those who cheered Mox’s refrain, ‘I don’t want your life,’ as well as all those who never heard of the West Canaan Coyotes, we’re thrilled to bring Varsity Blues to Quibi and into the 21st century,” Tollin said about the project.

The original film starred James Van Der Beek, Jon Voight, Ron Lester, Scott Caan, and the late Paul Walker, and followed a small-town football team and their tribulations with their overbearing jerk of a coach.

Quibi is being spearheaded by studio execs Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman. The service, which will only be available on phones and tablets, has attracted talent including Liam Hemsworth, Paul Feig, Don Cheadle, and even Steven Spielberg, who will produce a horror project that can only be streamed at night.
