Netflix’s Witcher has seven seasons planned, says showrunner
We’re still just over a month away from the highly-anticipated debut of Netflix’s adaptation of the acclaimed fantasy novel series The Witcher, but showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has no intention of letting the series run to ground anytime soon. She has revealed a full seven seasons are mapped out for the Henry Cavill (Mission: Impossible-Fallout)-led series. (Via PCGamesN)

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Hissrich revealed that despite no early renewal announcement or extensions for the series from the streaming service, she has plotted out a full seven seasons for where the series should go following this December’s debut.
“Right now it’s just about, ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?'” Hissrich said. “The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to. I can’t promise you that they’re very much alive.”

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The series stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, 17-year-old Allan as Ciri, Chalotra as Yennefer, Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe, Mimi Ndiweni as fledgling sorceress Fringilla, Sabrina as Therica Wilson-Read, Millie Brady as outcast Princess Renfri, Adam Levy as the druid Mousesack, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as Queen Calanthe’s husband, the knight Eist and MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, head of the magical academy.
The Witcher series for Netflix will be based on the stories and novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, of which there are eight, which themselves formulated the popular Witcher games franchise which has since spawned a comic book series and a tabletop game. The book series was previously adapted for television in Poland.
