New Netflix Preview Unveils First Look at Summer Movie Lineup

Netflix has released a brand new promo release for their upcoming summer movie slate, promising new movie releases every week of the summer. The video provided us our first look at some of their highly-anticipated features, including Kevin Hart’s drama pic Fatherhood, Jason Momoa’s action thriller Sweet Girl and the long-in-development Fear Street Trilogy as well as upcoming romcom pics He’s All That and The Kissing Booth 3.

The 2021 Summer promo also offered sneak peeks at new animated features such as the upcoming The Mitchells vs. The Machines, Wish Dragon, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Vivo, and America: The Motion Picture featuring Channing Tatum as the voice of George Washington. It also continued to tease Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s action-comedy The Last Mercenary, Liam Neeson’s The Ice Road, and more.

Written and directed by Paul Weitz, Fatherhood will be led by Kevin Hart, Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Anthony Carrigan, and Paul Reiser. Based on Matthew Logelin’s 2011 memoir titled Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love, the story follows Logelin as he and his daughter Madeline move to India for two months when his wife and her mother Liz and their experiences living in another state, along with Logelin’s struggles with solo parenting so early into Maddy’s life. Carrigan has signed on to star as Logelin’s quirky best friend.

In Sweet Girl, Momoa will play a husband who vows to bring justice to the people responsible for his wife’s death while also protecting his daughter, portrayed by Isabela Merced. The project will serve as the feature directorial debut of Brian Andrew Mendoza.

Based on R.L. Stine’s novel series, The Fear Street Trilogy is directed by Leigh Janiak from a script written by Kyle Killen. The story is said to focus on a group of teens in 1994 who learn that the terrifying series of events in their town of Shadyside, Ohio, may be connected and that they themselves may be the next targets. It will star Gillian Jacobs, Sadie Sink, Ashley Zukerman, Fred Hechinger, Julia Rehwald, Jeremy Ford, Kiana Madeira, Emily Rudd, Ryan Simpkins, McCabe Slye and Olivia Welch.

He’s All That is a gender-swapped remake of 1999’s She’s All That. Starring TikTok star Addison Rae and Cobra Kai‘s Tanner Buchanan, the remake centers around influencer Padgett Sawyer as she accepts the challenge to turn the school’s biggest loser into prom king in an attempt to avenge herself following a humiliating fallout with her boyfriend.
