Jodie Foster to Star in HBO’s True Detective Season 4

After 31 years since the theatrical release of The Silence of the Lambs, Jodie Foster will once again channel her detective skills as she officially makes her return to television. According to Deadline, the Oscar-winning actress has signed on for a series regular role in HBO’s forthcoming True Detective Season 4 titled Night Country, which hails from executive producer Barry Jenkins.

Foster is set to portray the leading role of Detective Liz Danvers. This marks the A-lister’s first major scripted TV project in nearly five decades since making appearances in a number of shows and TV movies during the 1970s such as The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, Julia, Gunsmoke, Menace on the Mountain, Daniel Boone, Ironside, Kung Fu, Alexander, Paper Moon and more.

True Detective: Night Country is being written by Issa Lopez and Alan Page Arriaga, with Lopez expect to direct multiple episodes. It will be executive produced by Foster along with Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak through their Pastel banner.

“The series is centered around Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro who are looking to solve the case of six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanishing without a trace, when the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska,” reads the synopsis. “The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Additional executive producers include Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey, and Woody Harrelson along with Cary Joji Fukunaga and series creator Nic Pizzolatto who won’t be involved with the creative process of the fourth installment.
