After attaching several filmmakers over the years, including The Grey director Joe Carnahan, Miss Bala helmer Gerardo Naranjo and, most recently/briefly, Big Bad Wolves directors Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures and MGM‘s Death Wish remake has found another brave soul to make the movie in the form of fan fav Eli Roth (Hostel, Knock Knock). Bruce Willis (Looper, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is still attached to headline as vigilante Paul Kersey.

Charles Bronson starred in the original 1974 film (in turn based on a 1972 novel by the same name) as a New York man who turns vigilante following the murder of his wife. The original Death Wish received four sequels (all of which starred Bronson) over the course of the next two decades.

Although the Death Wish remake was previously working with a script draft penned by Carnahan, Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) and Graham Yost (“Justified”), the current draft is attributed to the dynamic duo of Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski (“The People v OJ Simpson,” Big Eyes, Ed Wood), both of whom are self-avowed ’70s movie connoisseurs. The script is said to hew close to author Brian Garfield’s original novel.

Roth was recently attached to helm another revolving door project, Warner Bros.’ big budget giant shark film Meg, until creative differences reared their heads.
