Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah in talks to direct the sequel Bad Boys for Life
The long-spoken-of sequel Bad Boys for Life is finally happening, according to Deadline. Sony Pictures is reportedly in talks with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct the film starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The film is reportedly looking at an August production start. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce the film.

The newest draft of the script for Bad Boys for Life was written by Chris Bremner. The film has been talked about for years, though it was moved off of Sony’s schedule. El Arbi and Fallah wrote and directed Black, a story about organized crime in Belgium. The recently directed a number of episodes, including the pilot, for the FX series Snowfall. They are currently attached to Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Bad Boys II was released in theaters in 2003, a sequel to the 1995 original film, which went on to gross $273 million worldwide (the first film earned $141 million). It starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence plus Jordi Mollà, Peter Stormare, Theresa Randle and Joe Pantoliano.
In addition to the film, NBC is casting for their upcoming untitled Bad Boys spinoff TV series. The show stars Gabrielle Union as Syd Burnett, reprising her role from Bad Boys II. Ernie Hudson was recently cast in the show, and he’ll play Joseph Burnett, Syd’s father.
In the series, Burnett has left the DEA and now has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. She’s partnered with Nancy McKenna, a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy. These two have totally different lifestyles and approaches, but they both are at the top of their fields in this action-packed, character-driven procedural.
The as-yet-untitled show is written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the Bad Boys movies, and Doug Belgrad, who worked on the franchise as well, will executive produce the series with Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.
