AMC to provide screenings of A Wrinkle of Time for children in need
AMC Theatres announced today that they will be teaming up with Color of Change to provide screenings of A Wrinkle of Time for those who deserve it the most. The theater chain and online racial justice organization have announced the “Give A Child The Universe” initiative. It will encourage individual and group benefactors to purchase and donate tickets to the movie, enabling underprivileged children to see the film at a matinee showing at their local AMC Theatres location beginning on March 9th.
Using the donations, Color of Change will distribute tickets to a passionate network of local partners, schools and community-based organizations, allowing children to enjoy this highly-anticipated title regardless of economic challenges. Executive director of Color of Change, Rashad Robinson expressed the importance of allowing youths, particularly those of color, the opportunity to watch the upcoming Ava DuVernay-directed film:
“Ava DuVernay has set out to change the rules in Hollywood for people of color and women. By casting a black teenage actress Storm Reid as the heroine at the center of this story, the filmmakers and the studio send a powerful message to millions of young people who will see someone like them embracing their individuality and strength to save the world. We are pleased to partner with AMC to ensure that as many young people as possible, regardless of economic and financial hardships, can see this groundbreaking film.”
Nikkole Denson-Randolph, vice president of special content for AMC, also released a statement echoing Robinson’s excitement at the team up and ultimate message of the film:
“The Wrinkle Of Time story is one that children from all backgrounds and walks of life can identify with and draw inspiration from, and we are thrilled to celebrate this film in a meaningful way, through the vision of Ava DuVernay and in partnership with Color of Change.”
Based on the children’s book by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Storm Reid, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mindy Kaling. Co-director of 2013’s Frozen, Jennifer Lee, penned the screenplay.
A Wrinkle Of Time releases on March 9, 2018. A new TV spot has also released for the fantastical adaptation which can be viewed below.
