Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams (Sharp Objects, American Hustle, Arrival) has joined the Fox 2000 film adaptation of The Woman in the Window, directed by Golden Globe nominee Joe Wright (Atonement, The Darkest Hour) and written by Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts (August, Osage County).

The Woman in the Window tells the story of Dr. Anna Fox, a recluse in New York City who drinks her days away alone in her apartment, watching classic films and her neighbors. When the Russells move into the house across the way, Anna sees the ideal family and spies on them, only to witness a shocking event that changes her life.

Readers have showered A.J. Finn’s novel with praise, citing its page-turning, paranoia-inducing plot. It has enjoyed the top spot on the New York Times Bestseller list and continues to sell since its launch in January. The book has sold more than one million copies in the United States and has additionally topped the bestseller charts in multiple countries.

Adams can next be seen in HBO’s Sharp Objects as Camille Preaker, a reporter who confronts the psychological demons from her past when she returns to her hometown to cover a violent murder. She also recently finished production on Backseat, the Dick Cheney docudrama starring as Lynne Cheney opposite Christian Bale.

The Woman in the Window is produced by Scott Rudin (Ladybird) and Eli Bush. Wright’s most recent film, The Darkest Hour, earned Gary Oldman the Academy Award for best actor with the film receiving six nominations including best picture.

The news was first reported by Variety.
