Amazon Celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Throughout the month of May, Amazon is featuring curated collections of movies, series, music, books, and audiobooks from AAPI creators, actors, artists, producers, writers, and filmmakers to honor the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community.

Throughout the month of May, Prime Video is featuring a dedicated landing page with a curated selection of titles to honor the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The collection features AAPI actors, producers, writers, and filmmakers, and includes Amazon Originals such as Jimmy O Yang: Good Deal and Academy Award winner Sound of Metal, licensed titles such as The Farewell, and movies like The Grandmaster from IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service.

Amazon Music

Amazon Music, IMDbPro, and IMDb are coming together with AEG, Gold House, Pacific Bridge Arts Foundation (PBA), and Transparent Arts to present Identity 2021, a virtual live stream celebration and fundraiser for APAHM. Streaming live on Saturday, May 15th at 5 p.m. PST on Amazon Music’s Twitch Channel, this year’s event will feature live performances, PSAs, panels, and more from some of the most groundbreaking members of the APAHM community, including Mike Shinoda (PSA), Steve Aoki (PSA), James Reid, Guapdad 4000, ATEEZ, Kalani Peʻa, Taylor Rapp, and more. Co-hosted by Dumbfoundead and Sherry Cola, the event will raise money for the PBA’s scholarship programs and the AAPI Community Fund.

Amazon Music is also releasing a weekly series of Amazon Original tracks for APAHM, celebrating some of the most exciting AAPI artists. Debuting each Friday on the Mixtape Asia playlist, the series launched last week with “Rent Free,” a brand-new Amazon Original track from Dumbfoundead, featuring Filipino-American singer, songwriter, and record producer, Jeff Bernat and will feature additional tracks from ATEEZ, James Reid, AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro, and Jules Aurora.

Amazon Music also launched a new collection of playlists for APAHM, including “Made in Hawaii,” which spotlights the works of Hawaiian musicians. The playlist is curated by GRAMMY-Award-winning singer/songwriter and producer Kalani Peʻa. Amazon Music will also debut “The Collective,” a new playlist dedicated the best new hip-hop from API artists from around the globe, as well as a brand-new [RE]DISCOVER playlist on the iconic collective and record label, 88rising.

Amazon Books

Throughout the month of May, Amazon Book Review will help readers discover new and beloved book recommendations from AAPI writers – from acclaimed fiction, to titles that celebrate Asian history, and upcoming releases from Asian authors, there’s a book that can help readers stay entertained and educated. Celebrated titles include Viet Thanh Nguyen’s The Committed, Jessie Q. Sutanto’s Dial A for Aunties, Pam C. Zhang’s How Much of These Hills Is Gold, and Phuc Tran’s Sigh, Gone.

Audible

Throughout the month of May, Audible will feature listening recommendations from AAPI writers, creators, and performers including Viet Than Nguyen, Leah Nakano Winkler, Ed Park, Roshani Chokshi, and many others. These recommendations will be highlighted on the Audible homepage and in the Discover section of the Audible app. Audible’s dedicated landing page celebrating AAPI voices is updated all year round with listening experiences from across the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and will continue to surface a collection of outstanding titles including Audible Originals such as Yo-Yo Ma’s Beginner’s Mind, Sophia Chang’s The Baddest Bitch in the Room, Ken Liu’s The Armies of Those I Love performed by Auli’I Cravalho, as well as best-selling titles from Kevin Kwan, Jenny Han, Amy Tan, and more. On May 27th, Audible will also host an Audible Live event with Yo-Yo Ma – an exclusive, intimate, inspiring livestream through which the musical virtuoso will answer questions about his new Words+Music production, his body of work, and his vision for the future.
