Disney+'s Ms. Marvel Wraps Production in Thailand

After six months of filming in two different locations, Variety brings word that production on Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Ms. Marvel series has finally wrapped in Thailand which lasted through April and early May. Filming for the MCU series first took place in Atlanta, Georgia, where it shot four episodes directed by Adil El Arbi, Billal Fallah, and Meera Menon, while Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy helmed episodes four and five in Thailand.

According to the outlet, despite third wave resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Thailand, Marvel Studios was able to obtain a waiver that allowed production to continue filming as they were already enforcing strict safety protocols included the set being divided into three separate bubbles.

Ms. Marvel was first announced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige nearly two years ago at the 2019 D23 Event. The Disney+ series marks the live-action debut of the fan-favorite Marvel character. It introduces Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer, and a voracious fanfiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school–that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right?

The series will be led by newcomer Iman Vellani in her acting debut as the titular hero. Following the series, Vellani’s Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel will next be seen in Nia DaCosta’s Captain Marvel sequel titled The Marvels starring opposite Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris, which is set for a November 11, 2022 release.

Joining her are Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.
