Marvel Studios’ What If…? flips the script on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways. Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. Every story in the show will be non-canonical, as the stories will feature some wildly different outcomes from their actual events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The animated series will feature the introduction of The Watcher, who serves as the narrator throughout the first season. The character is being voiced by Jeffrey Wright. The MCU actors who are set to reprise their roles in the series includes: Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce/Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury,  Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, and more.

It will most notably feature the late Chadwick Boseman’s last performance as T’Challa. His episode will center around the prince of Wakanda getting abducted by the Reavers, making him Star Lord instead of becoming the Black Panther.

What If…? hails from head writer AC Bradley and director Bryan Andrew. The first season is expected to only cover the events from the Infinity Saga.

The original What If comic book series debuted in 1977 and over time 200 issues have been published. The stories ranged from the impossible to the ridiculous as Marvel looks to use the streaming service to tell more out-of-the-box stories unachievable through live-action.
