The Thanksgiving weekend was quite merry for studios, even if the end result wasn’t quite spectacular.
Leading the charge was Disney’s Encanto, which earned $40.5 million domestically over the five-day holiday weekend from 3,980 theaters, per Deadline. While that number marks one of the lowest openings for a Disney animated film — even coming in behind Disney/Pixar’s “dud” The Good Dinosaur — strong audience reaction should propel the family flick to decent business over the next few weeks.

Of course, Encanto’s struggles had a lot to do with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which continued to exceed expectations in its second week with a $35.25 million five-day cume, bringing its domestic total to $87.8 million. Per EntTelligence tracking, Ghostbusters and Encanto split family audiences with the former selling 3.25 million tickets and the latter selling 3.7 million. Over the three days, Jason Reitman’s supernatural sequel earned $24.5 million, just below Encanto’s $27 million. Ghostbusters also continues to play well on IMAX where it earned another $2.3M, bringing its total to $7.5M from the large format.
Elsewhere, Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci earned $14.2 million over its first three days and $21.8 million over the five-day holiday weekend, making it the strongest earning for a November drama since 2019’s Little Women, which collected $16.7 million three-day, $29.2 million five-day over the same timeframe.

The only other high-profile release was Sony’s Resident Evil: Raccoon City, which managed a $5.3 million three-day, $8.8M five-day from 2,803 theaters.
