According to Variety, HBO has enlisted Ultra City Smiths creator Steve Conrad to pen the screenplay for the network’s potential new Game of Thrones spin-off prequel titled Tales of Dunk & Egg, based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novellas of the same name. Should the project secure an official series order, Conrad would also serve as its executive producer through his Elephant Pictures.

Set in the world of Martin’s epic fantasy novels A Song of Ice and Fire, Tales of Dunk & Egg is expected to follow the adventures of Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (the future king Aegon V. Targaryen) 90 years before the events of the main novel. It is comprised of three stories including 1998’s The Hedge Knight, 2003’s The Sworn Sword, and 2010’s The Mystery Knight; all three were published in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2015.
In addition to this project, HBO is also developing a number of Game of Thrones spin-offs such as 10,000 Ships, and Sea Snake along with three untitled animated series for HBO Max.

HBO’s first Game of Thrones prequel is the upcoming House of the Dragon series which will chronicle the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. It is currently eyeing a 2022 debut.
The 10-episode series will be led by Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. It will also feature Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Milly Alcock, Emily Carey, and more.
