A Plague Tale: Requiem Achievements Leak, Hinting at Imminent Release Date Announcement

Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale: Requiem is seemingly just over the horizon. A list of Achievements and a possible pre-load for the game on Xbox consoles have appeared from nowhere, both of which are signs that a game is just about ready for public consumption or some sort of release date announcement, at least.

The achievements first popped up on Exophase connected to the GOG release. The list contains some pretty typical objectives among the campaign’s 15 chapters, but there is at least one notable bloke named Simon that you shouldn’t kill. Exophase often signals if a game is on the cusp of releasing, which has been the case for other games like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition.

As for the Xbox store leak, the sources are a bit more dubious. Twitter user Okami Games claimed that they were able to download the unreleased game to their console, which would hint at a quick launch onto the console’s Game Pass subscription service (it is already confirmed to be coming to Game Pass, for what it is worth). Leaks like this have occurred in the past, but no one else in the gaming sphere has been able to duplicate the feat. Video Games Chronicle also posted and then deleted a post saying the Xbox’s online marketplace had listed a June 2022 release date. For now, the list of achievements is a far better indicator that the game will have a formal release date announcement followed by a full release in the coming months.

Officially, Requiem is still pegged for a vague 2022 release without mention of a specific date. The game is coming to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox on the console front as well as personal computers, and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to load into the game upon release for no additional charge. The game is the second in the Plague Tale series, a direct follow-up to 2019’s Innocence. Both games are made in the mold of Sony exclusives like The Last of Us, as they are stealthy journeys through a plague-ridden version of 14th century France. The games let combat take a backseat to puzzle-solving and narrative prowess, offering gamers outside of the Sony ecosystem a AAA experience they aren’t getting from many other developers.

Innocence was ultimately a hidden gem in 2019, and Asobo Studio has only gained in notoriety since then thanks to its work on Microsoft Flight Simulator. The ultimate success of Requiem could hinge on finding the right release date in a very busy 2022 games calendar, and it seems that we won’t have to wait long to see if the studio has hit the bullseye.
