Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Passes Away at 50

Foo Fighters drummer Oliver Taylor Hawkins has passed away at the age of 50. The band was currently on tour in Bogota, Colombia.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band announced. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Hawkins joined Foo Fighters in 1997 and previously was a touring drummer for Sass Jordan, Alanis Morissette, and Sylvia. He also had his own side project Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, where he sang in addition to playing drums. Hawkins was on nine Foo Fighters albums, including There Is Nothing Left to Lose, One by One, and In Your Honor. He most recently starred in the horror film Studio 666 with the rest of his bandmates.

U.K. drumming magazine Rhythm voted Hawkins the Best Rock Drummer of 2005 and he was highly respected by his peers.
