Christopher Nolan to direct Dunkirk at Warner Bros. Pictures
Back in September, Warner Bros. Pictures set a release date for Christopher Nolan’s next movie on Friday, July 21, 2017. Now, Variety reports that the project is titled Dunkirk and that Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy are in talks to play supporting roles. The trade says that yet-to-be-cast unknown teenagers will lead the cast.
The script, written by Nolan, is set during the legendary evacuation of the northern French city during World War II. The Dunkirk evacuation was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from Dunkirk, France, between May 27 and June 4, 1940.
Nolan will also produce the film with his producing partner Emma Thomas.
Filming is expected to start in May and the production will use many of the real locations of the true-life events. The movie will be shot in a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film.
Also set for a July 21, 2017 release date is Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, while just a week later the new Spider-Man movie from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios will open in theaters.
