FX has announced that the network has ordered a pilot based on the comic book series Y: The Last Man. The comics, published by Vertigo (DC Comics) and created by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, ran for 60 issues after first being released in 2002.

Y: The Last Man is a post-apocalyptic science fiction story, exploring gender, race, class, and survival, that takes place in a world in which all men — except for one — are dead. The comic book series received the first Hugo Award for best graphic story as well as three Eisner Awards, which is the top honor in the comic book industry.

Co-showrunners Michael Green (American Gods, Logan) and Aida Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn) will executive produce alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (American Crime Story) and original writer Vaughan. Melina Matsoukas (Master of None) is set to direct the pilot as well as executive produce.

FX began work on a series adaptation for Y: The Last Man after New Line Cinema’s rights to the project lapsed. The adaptation has been in development by the network for more than two years.

Variety first reported the news.
