Courteney Cox Says Friends Reunion Will Include Special Surprises

During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, when asked about how it was filming the long-awaited Friends reunion, Courteney Cox shared that it was an unbelievable and emotional moment as it was the first time in more than a decade that the six of them got together on a sound stage. She also teased that fans should anticipate the upcoming HBO Max special’s many surprises.

“It was unbelievable,” Cox said. “It’s so emotional. It’s an unscripted reunion but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in like– 15 years, or 17 years?”

Although she wasn’t able to remember all of their previous moments during their time on Friends, she added that “[the special] was great. It was really fun…we had a lot of special surprises and it was fantastic.”

Filming on the Friends reunion was finally completed last month after it was delayed twice due to the ongoing pandemic. The HBO Max special was taped on two locations: the iconic show’s original Stage 24 on Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, and in front of the famous fountain that was seen in the show’s opening credits.

Friends: The Reunion will reunite the beloved sitcom’s six main leads including Jennifer Aniston Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc, who had portrayed the roles of Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Ross, Chandler, and Joey.

The unscripted HBO Max special is directed by Ben Winston, who will also serve as an executive producer along with the original producers Kevin Bright, Kauffman and Crane. The six core stars will also executive produce alongside Emma Conway and James Longman. It was originally set to debut early last year as part of the HBO Max’s launch. However, filming was pushback to this year because of the ongoing pandemic.

Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, Friends had lasted over ten seasons from 1994-2004 which followed the story of six friends who lived in New York City. Even though 25 years had passed since its debut, the 62-time Emmy Award-nominated series stood the test of time and is still garnered as one of the best TV series of all time and had also become a pop culture phenomenon known to all ages.
