Hilary Duff: How I Met Your Father Will Have Ties to the Original Series

It has only been two weeks since How I Met Your Father secured a straight-to-series order from Hulu, and now lead star Hilary Duff (Lizzie Maguire) has finally opened up about the upcoming sequel to the legendary sitcom How I Met Your Mother, teasing some new details about the project. In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Duff confirmed that the new Hulu series will have a connection to the original while also gushing about how good the script is. Because of this, the sequel series is indeed open to potential guest appearances from the original cast.

“I don’t want to give it all away, and the script is definitely being changed a little bit,” Duff said. “But it does tie in, and hopefully, we’ll have some fun guest appearances from the original cast.”

She also went on to talk more about the project’s premise, confirming that her lead character will have three potential love interests, “There’s great characters, and I’m going to get to have another on-set family, another TV family. There’s so much opportunity for love stories with this show because it’s Sophie and then three dudes. So it’s going down that whole rabbit hole of like, well, which one was the father? And you get to like go through all of Sophie’s young experience of finding love and dating and what that’s like in the modern world.”

Like the original’s premise, How I Met Your Father will center around Sophie as she tells her son the story of how she met his father. It will begin in 2021, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

The 10-episode multi and single-cam comedy series will be written and executive produced by creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. It will also be executive produced by How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with Adam Londy. 20th Television is producing with Duff set as a producer.
