New Andor Set Photos Reveal First Look at Diego Luna's Return

As production continues on Lucasfilm’s Andor series in the UK, new behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars prequel series have finally arrived online (via StreetRogue Photography and MakingStarWars.Net). The set photos provided us our first glimpse of Diego Luna’s return as Cassian Andor in his new costume. They also confirmed the inclusion of a different kind of Stormtroopers called Shoretroopers, which were first seen in 2016’s Rogue One. The prequel series has been in production since November, with Toby Haynes directing the first three episodes.

Disney+’s Andor series sees the return of Diego Luna as he reprises his Rogue One role of Cassian Andor. Set five years before the events of Rogue One, the series will follow the adventures of the titular hero rebel spy during the formative years of the Rebellion. It will explore tales of espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.

Joining Luna are returning Star War alums Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma and Alan Tudyk as Cassian’s droid sidekick K-2SO. Tudyk previously revealed that he wouldn’t appear in the first season, which somehow confirmed the possibility of the series’ potential second season. It will also feature Denise Gough, Stellan Skarsgård, Kyle Soller and Adria Arjona.

The Cassian Andor is executive produced by showrunner Tony Gilroy, who previously directed the reshoots for Rogue One. Gilroy was originally expected to direct the three episodes but was forced to give up the position to Black Mirror’s Toby Haynes due to pandemic-related travel issues.

In Rogue One, a group of unlikely heroes bands together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

The 2016 film was a critical and box-office hit with a gross of over $1 billion worldwide. It starred Luna, Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn.
