Ahead of this Friday’s premiere of Army of Thieves, Zack Snyder has revealed some new details about Netflix’s upcoming Army of the Dead 2, while teasing the unknown fate of Matthias Schweighöfer’s Ludwig Dieter. Speaking with Inverse, the Justice League filmmaker has confirmed that the action-horror sequel will officially be titled Planet of the Dead. The title seemingly confirms that the rest of the world has indeed caught on the virus, following the first installment which ended with Omari Hardwick’s Vanderohe surviving Las Vegas, but would later on find out that he had been bitten.
“The real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed,” Snyder teased. “Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don’t see him die on camera, and there’s still some time left. I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there’s a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline.”

Army of Thieves stars Grimme Award winner Matthias Schweighöfer, Nathalie Emmanuel (Games of Thrones, F9), Guz Khan (Turn Up Charlie), Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin (Jamestown), Jonathan Cohen (Budapest), Noemie Nakai, Peter Simonischek (Toni Erdmann), and John Bubniak.
In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
