John Krasinski’s Fantasy Comedy Adds Phoebe Waller-Bridge & More

It has been over two years since we’ve last heard an update regarding Paramount Pictures’ John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds-led project.

Now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Emmy-winning actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Indiana Jones 5) and Harry Potter vet Fiona Shaw have officially signed on to join the untitled fantasy comedy film. This marks the latest collaboration between Waller-Bridge and Shaw after previously working together in acclaimed shows Killing Eve and Fleabag.

Production is expected to finally begin in the summer of 2022. The film is currently slated for a November 17, 2023 release, pitting it against Universal Pictures’ untitled event film.

The untitled fantasy-comedy feature, which was previously titled as Imaginary Friends, will be written and directed by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place films). Further details about the film’s plot and characters are still being kept under wraps but it’s reportedly based on the actor-turned-filmmaker’s original idea about a child’s journey in rediscovering their imagination.

Paramount Pictures won the rights to the project in a bidding war against multiple studios. It will be produced by Krasinski, Allyson Seeger, and Andrew Form through their Sunday Night banner, along with Reynolds for Maximum Effort. George Dewey has also been set as executive producer via Maximum Effort.

Krasinski recently directed and briefly appeared in the sequel to his 2018 horror film A Quiet Place Part II, which currently holds a worldwide gross of nearly $300 million. He also recently made a voice cameo in Reynolds’ hit action-comedy Free Guy. The Office alum is also set to reprise his role as Jack Ryan in Amazon’s upcoming third season.

Meanwhile, Reynolds had just recently announced that he will be taking a short sabbatical from filming movies after he wrapped up production on Apple Studios’ musical film adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The Deadpool star will next be seen in two high-profile Netflix films including Red Notice and The Adam Project.
