MCU Halloween Special in the Works at Disney+ with Latino Lead

Earlier this month, circulating rumors about Marvel Studios’ potential plans of developing a Werewolf by Night series began surfacing online, and now it seems like the blockbuster studio is indeed working on a project based on the supernatural creature from the comics. According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios is reportedly in the process of developing an MCU Halloween special for Disney+, which is expected to be led by a Latino actor.

The outlet notes that the potential MCU Halloween Special might center around the character based on Werewolf by Night, a name that was used by two different Marvel characters. The first one, which was created by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog, was Jack Russell, who is a descendant of the Lycanthropes, shapeshifting half-human creatures who are capable of transforming at his own will, even without a full moon. Meanwhile, the second one was Jake Gomez, a Native American whose tribe has been cursed with lycanthropy.

It’s unclear whether or not, either of them will be featured in the upcoming special. It’s definitely interesting to see that Marvel Studios is slowly embracing the darker and supernatural side of the comics, especially with the upcoming debuts of the Oscar Isaac-led Moon Knight series, Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness film, and the Mahershala Ali-led Blade movie.

Casting for the leading role is currently underway, with the studio actively looking to find a Latino man in his 30s. Marvel Studios is reportedly planning to start filming the MCU Halloween Special in early 2022.
