Warner Bros. Reportedly Working on Smash Bros.-Esque Fighter

Nickelodeon just released its Super Smash Bros.-esque platform fighter and now it appears as though Warner Bros. is looking to do the same. A new rumor has stated that Warner Bros. is looking to develop a similar type of title with its IPs and that game might be called Multiversus.

This rumor started on Reddit from a user titled hugeleakeractually. They said it is a tag team game, but they weren’t sure exactly how that would play out during gameplay. However, they were quite sure about its current roster, which reportedly includes Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Tom & Jerry, Batman, Fred Flintstone, Mad Max, and Johnny Bravo. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley were also brought up as being in the game, but, because the “rights are so weird,” it appears as though development has halted on them. However, the user wasn’t sure if their source was saying this as a joke.

The reported leaker goes on to say that this game was started before Nickeloden All-Stars Brawl and originated from the memes and jokes surrounding Shaggy in Mortal Kombat 11. This led to Warner Bros. tossing around ideas and wanting more crossovers, as was seen in Space Jam: A New Legacy. They then brought up the Multiversus trademark and then alleged that Mortal Kombat and Injustice developer NetherRealm Studios was behind the title.

This is ironically where the rumor gets more credibility by getting partially debunked. Prominent leaker and GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb tweeted about the project, corroborating that it is real, but stating that NetherRealm is not making it. Grubb said in August that NetherRealm was developing Mortal Kombat 12 instead of Injustice 3 amidst all the uncertainty surrounding Warner Bros. and developing games based on its properties. This is just one of the many rumors surrounding the team, as some claim the developer is making a Marvel game, while other say it is creating Injustice 3. NetherRealm has not spoken about its next title after it announced that it was ceasing support for Mortal Kombat 11.

Warner Bros. has also not spoken about this alleged Super Smash Warner Bros. game, which looks like it has a fair chance of being real. And since a release window hasn’t been attached to this rumor, it’s uncertain when Warner Bros. will speak about it, if it ever does.
