A Plague Tale: Innocence Remaster Leads PlayStation Plus July Lineup

A Plague Tale: Innocence Remaster Leads PlayStation Plus July Lineup

Sony has finally unveiled the PlayStation Plus July lineup on the very last day of June. Users will receive Call of Duty: Black Ops IIIIWWE 2K Battlegrounds, and A Plague Tale: Innocence remaster, the latter of which is only available for PS5 owners (however, PS4 owners can still redeem it on the PlayStation Store website or app). Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown is also available for one more month.

While likely the least recognizable title of the trio, A Plague Tale: Innocence is the most prominent one, even though it’s not surprising since insiders had already pointed to it being in this month’s offering. It’s the PS5 title of the month and comes on the same day that the current-gen remaster is releasing (which will also be on Game Pass on Xbox and PC). Just be warned that the above trailer contains major spoilers for the game.

The Last of Us-style adventure game previously came out on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2019, but Asobo Studio announced this upgrade right after E3 2021 where it also revealed the current-gen-only 2022 sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem. Innocence‘s current-gen upgrades include a native 4K resolution, 60 frames per second target, faster loading, and “highly improved visuals,” but those improvements were not spelled out.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is the second title. This multiplayer-only entry in the series from 2018 introduced battle royale to the Call of Duty before 2020’s Warzone expanded upon it. Of course, it has many of the other traditional Call of Duty modes like Zombies and competitive multiplayer.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is the third game in the lineup and is the only one with a poor critical reception as it stands at a 59 on OpenCritic. It’s an arcadey arena fighting game with tons of recognizable stars like John Cena, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. This title released in the absence of a traditional wrestling game because WWE 2K20 was so horrendously received the year prior.

And while not a new game, players can still redeem Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown for one more month until August 2, the day before the August PlayStation Plus titles come out. This remade fighting game was one of the titles that Sony offered in June alongside Star Wars: Squadrons and Operation: Tango.
