Madame Xanadu HBO Max TV Series in Development by J.J. Abrams

J.J. Abrams is returning to the world of comics, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the director is teaming up with Angela Robinson to adapt DC’s Madame X as a scripted drama for HBO Max.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, the project will be written and executive produced by Robinson (Professor Marston & the Wonder Women). The series is said to be in the early development stages, so no concrete information on casting or story has been divulged just yet. 

Madame X – also known as Madame Xanadu – first appeared in the world of DC Comics in the late 70s, and has been a part of the Justice League Dark storylines in her many appearances. The character is known as a sorceress and has also helped the Suicide Squad out in several variations. Most recently during DC’s The New 52 run, Madame X assisted the Dark League and was later revealed to be Doctor Destiny’s mother.

Abrams and his Bad Robot production banner are currently involved in developing multiple series for HBO Max, including an upcoming Justice League Dark and Constantine series.
